There will be a photography exhibition titled Eyes Wide Open held at The New Vic Theatre to co-incide with the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Arnold Bennett, one of Stoke-on-Trent’s greatest literary legends. The exhibition will be showcased simultaneously with The New Vic’s Theatre production, Anna of the Five Towns which is being performed at the same venue from 26 May until 17 June 2017. The photo exhibition is organised by the local newspaper, The Sentinel and has about 33 photos which is being exhibited. The play, Anna of the Five Towns is an adaptation of Arnold’s most-loved novel which tells the absorbing love story of a spirited young woman, Anna Tellwright, set against the backdrop of life in the Potteries.
What is the play about?
Anna Tellwright’s 21st birthday brings with it newfound responsibilities, wealth and a suitor for her heart. Courted by desirable bachelor Henry Mynors, Anna struggles to gain her independence. She finds herself torn between trying to please her tyrannical father and a desire to help young Willie Price and his family from the brink of ruin. As pressure mounts, tragedy strikes, and Anna must discover where her heart truly lies before it’s too late.
