Are you on a health drive? Are you trying to lose weight or be more active? If so, it’s useful to understand the part calories play. The average person should burn around 2,000 calories per day. It’s understandable to assume that you need to exercise for hours to hit this target, but as this infographic shows, your body is always working, and even the most basic and mundane tasks can help you hit your daily burn.
Exercise offers a raft of benefits for your physical and mental health, but going to the gym isn’t the only way you can burn calories. Your body is actually using energy all the time, even when you sleep and a 7-hour sleep could help you burn more than 380 calories. Getting ready in the morning can also contribute to your target. Showering for 15 minutes burns 62 calories, drying your hair for 15 minutes adds another 39 calories and even brushing your teeth can scratch off another 4 calories.
One of the simplest ways to increase activity levels is walking more. If you walk to work, you’ll burn 149 calories, and you can add another 15 calories to your tally every time you choose the stairs over the lift.
If you’re embracing exercise, you should find that this has a dramatic impact on the number of calories you use. An hour of activity can burn hundreds of calories, so try running (900 calories), climbing (600 calories), rowing (632 calories) or football (600 calories). When you’re ready to chill out, watching TV for half an hour will burn 27 calories while a light 15-minute yoga session will scratch off another 75 calories.
If you need inspiration to hit your burn, hopefully, this infographic will come in handy!
