Are you finding it hard to drop off at night? Lying awake in bed waiting to try and fall asleep can be very annoying and it also means that you are likely to wake up the next day feeling fatigued and lethargic. As a result, your concentration at work will suffer and you could find that you are a lot more irritable and likely to suffer from low moods.
If you aren’t too sure why you are finding it difficult to get enough sleep, it is important that you try to get to the bottom of the problem so that you can figure out the best solution for you. Here are some of the usual reasons why people can’t sleep at night.
Your Partner Is Keeping You Up
One of the most common reasons why people find it hard to get to sleep at night is that their partner is keeping them up. It could be because they are tossing and turning a lot through the night or that they are disturbing you with their snoring. You might want to check online to find out about an effective snoring treatment that could help reduce the noise. If you are really struggling to stop a partner’s snoring, they should book an appointment with their doctor as it could be caused by an underlying health condition.
The Bedroom Is Not At The Right Temperature
There’s also a good chance that your bedroom might be too hot or too cold. Ideally, you need the room to be slightly on the cool side so that you don’t get too hot under the covers. So, if you leave the heating on at night, you might want to consider turning it down. However, if you get too cold, you will find it difficult to sleep as well – it might take a bit of experimentation before you find the best temperature conditions for you.
You Need A New Mattress
Are you sure you are comfy enough in bed? If you have had your mattress for five or more years, it could be time to replace it, even if you don’t find it too uncomfortable. Over time, mattresses develop lumps and bumps and, even though you might not feel them, they could still be affecting how you sleep. So, think about treating yourself to a new mattress.
You Are Stressed
If you are particularly stressed or worried at the minute, you might find that you have a lot on your mind. All of these thoughts and worries could send your mind into overdrive as soon as your head hits the pillow, which could make it impossible for you to unwind and fall asleep. So, it could be worth trying some stress-busting activities, such as Yoga and mindfulness, to try and remove all those negative thoughts and emotions from your mind.
Hopefully, one of the above reasons is why you can’t sleep. Now you know what you can try and do to improve your sleep patterns. Let me know if they help you!
