On our recent visit to Trentham Gardens we stopped off at the Italian Garden Tearoom for a quick lunch. It was beautiful as the tearoom had big large windows hence you had a lovely view of the gardens from the inside. Here’s our review of the restaurant.

After all that walking around the Garden area, we were quite famished but at the same time we wanted to have a quick lunch before heading back to our activities especially since it was a nice day and there was so much do to. We stopped of at the Italian Garden Tearoom which is located just next to the Italian Garden. It was a busy day but luckily we had made prior reservations and did not need to wait long to be seated. The staff were quick to attend to us and we decided to start off our drink order. With all the energetic activities we were doing that day, we decided that the kids deserve a Babyccino each, which is a mini hot chocolate served with mini marshmallows, whipped cream and Cadbury flake. This costs £3.20. They were delish but so moreish and our kids could not get enough of it.

We adults decided to order the cafe latte which was made beautifully by Ben, see the video slideshow to watch how he made the drink. A regular cup cost £2.95 while we also ordered the Regular sized Hot Chocolate served with whipped cream and chocolate flake. This was overly sweet and indulgent if you ask us. This cost £3.10.

While we waited for meals to arrive, the kids were kept busy as the kids menu also doubled up as an activity sheet, which is great especially when you have two hungry kids who can’t wait for their food.

When we were there, the whole restaurant was completely packed, being that it was Mother’s Day and also as it was noon time, so lots of hungry kids and adults about. The food took less than 10 minutes to arrive from the time we ordered it. This was the surprising. Our first order was the Haloumi Salad priced at £8.95. The salad was delicious and filing, this could be easily shared with 2 people. The vegetables was cooked nicely and we loved the fact that the dressing was served on the side and not poured on the top as we are not big fans of salad dressings. This is not on the menu as its a special, so speak to the staff to find out what specials are served on the day.

We next ordered the mushroom soup which was made perfectly! It was light and the bread was soft and warm. Totally loved this as mushroom soups are not commonly found in most of the restaurants we head to. This is priced at £4.25 and totally worth it especially if you just want a light snack.

Here’s a shot of us enjoying our meal.

We ordered the Cheese Oatcakes from the Kids menu and this came with a choice of 2 side dishes and our daughter picked the chips and beans with it. The babycino also came part of the meal and this cost £5.35. The oatcake was eaten by my daughter but grudgingly as the cheese inside was totally hard, like it had been pre-made and kept on the side. If you are heading to the cafe, please try not to order this.

Another shot of us at the cafe

For the second kids’s meal, we picked Chicken Bites with Baked Beans and Sweet Potato Chips for the sides and this also cost £5.35 with a choice of drink of fruit shoot, still water, milk or babycino. The meal was good, the chips were nice and warm and the chicken crispy. This was quickly eaten by my son.

My husband ordered the Bacon Ciabatta for £4.95. It was nothing special, just the bread with ham and tomato inside with a salad on the side. Pretty plain but if you just want a bacon butty, this was it.

Now I would head to Trentham Gardens just to indulge in this delicious cake at the Italian Garden Tearoom anytime! The cake in mention was Zucchini Lime cake which was totally delish. We loved the citrus flavour in the cake and the bite which the zuichini gave it. There was not even crumbs left on the plate when we left.

Our next cake was Chocolate Fudge Cake, which was equally good. The cake was priced from £2.65 to £4.25, with muffins and cupcakes on the cheaper end and full sliced cake at £4.25. The cafe does serve gluten free cakes, so do have a chat to the staff and they will be able to help you with your selection.

Here’s a short video we share of our recent trip to Trentham Gardens as well as some short clips taken of the cafe. Do enjoy viewing it
What was great about the Italian Garden Tearoom?
- It was dog friendly cafe
- Service was really fast
- Staff were attentive and unlike most restaurants, we did not have to wait long to be noticed, Will was the one taking care of our table.
- Food was presented beautifully
- They do serve gluten free cakes and cater to allergy, so speak to them if you have one
- The cafe uses local produce and gets most of their supplies from local suppliers
What we wished was better
Although we have to applaud the service and the food to be served really quickly, we would appreciate if some of the food was not pre-prepared in advance like the cheese oatcakes (or which seemed like it was due to the hardened cheese).
Where is the Italian Garden Tearoom located?
Its easy to spot the beautiful glass exterior of the cafe which is situated next to the Italian Garden at Trentham Gardens

Oo those cakes! All of the food and drinks look delicious at the Italian Garden Tearoom, its a shame the oatcake didn’t match the rest of the meals though.
Thanks Helen, the cakes were really nice
The food & drink do look delicious! It’s a shame the oatcakes and bacon ciabatta didn’t quite match up to the rest of the meal, but all in all it does look pretty tasty! Also, I do love when activity sheets are provided for the little ones, my children will never sit still while waiting for food otherwise :/
We totally agree Sarah, we have noticed that they make an effort to sit for 10 min if there are activity sheets to keep them occupied. Yes its unfortunate for the oatcakes and ciabatta, hopefully next time it would be better
