If you have a football-crazy child at home then Danny Man Super Fan (A Chadmouth Town Football Story) by Ian Slatter would be a fantastic read for your little one. Recommended for children aged 9 to 12 years of age, this book is about Danny who loves Chadmouth Town Football Club more than anything, but a run of defeats and terrible luck has left them bottom of the table and looking certain to be relegated with time running out.
But then, Danny and his best friend Nelson stumble across a bizarre pre-match ritual that seems to turn their luck around, and his beloved team starts winning again. Is it too little too late though, and can he keep doing everything right before each match, even when he starts finding more and more obstacles in his way and despite the relentless teasing from his classmates? It’s going to come down to the wire.
Does Danny have what it takes to save Chadmouth’s season?

What did my 8-year-old son, Thomas think of the book?
I thought the book was great! The book is good for children who love football as it is about a boy called Danny Mann who lives in Chadmouth town with his family and is a huge football fan.
Chadmouth Football Team who are also known as “The Crabs” are not the best football team because they are below the Champions League. The team now needs to win their matches to go up the table.
The book talks about The Crabs and about each home and away games which they play. A string of terrible luck has meant that the team has been losing their games until Danny and Nelson start doing a pre-match ritual that seems to turn their football team’s luck around and the team starts winning again.
There are moments in the book when my heart was thumping really hard as I was curious to see if the team was going to win or lose the game. At times, it was almost like watching a real match where your team is losing 0-1 and then they equalise and they try really hard to score in the last 5 minutes.
I recommend the book to children around my age or slightly older because it is a good fiction book to read and it teaches you about football. I found the book to be really funny as well.
You must read the book to find out if The Crabs will remain in the league or if they will get relegated.
