Chocolate and Hazelnut (or Almond) Cake Recipe
This recipe dates back from early 1930 (at least, but it could be a lot older). My mother had it from her mother gave it to me.

I remember, my mum used to make it as a treat closer to Christmas as this was an expensive cake to make when I was a child.  You see, Hazelnuts and Almonds were considered a luxury!

This cake will keep for a few days in an airtight container.

Because there are so many nuts in the dough, it is easy to make it for people who are gluten intolerant – just substitute the flour for gluten-free flour. It works really well and tastes as nice as it would with normal plain flour.

You can serve it either as a cake to go with a cup of coffee or a glass of milk when you have guests in the afternoon or you can use it as a fancy dessert. It is really tasty with custard (even better if you serve it warm) or with whipped cream.
Chocolate and Hazelnut (or Almond) Cake Recipe

Ingredients
200g chocolate (70%)
200g butter or margarine
200g sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla
5 eggs
200g Ground Hazelnuts or almonds
90g flour (either normal flour or gluten-free)
1 level teaspoon baking powder

Method

Melt the chocolate and butter. I do this in the microwave at a defrost power level
Mix the sugar, flour, nuts, eggs and then add the chocolate/butter mixture (make sure it’s not too hot)
Mix well
Put in a lined 26cm tin (or if you have a Pyrex dish)
Bake at 180C for around 40 to 50 minutes

I usually check if it is still springy to the touch as I like the cake to be a little undercooked so it is still a little soft in the middle.

I must be the only person not to be baking through lockdown! I love the sounds of this, sumptuous and perfect with a cup of tea.

This sounds like a wonderful recipe. I love using ground nuts as they really do help retain moisture in the cake.

Chocolate hazelnut is one of my favourite combinations, although my fiance doesn’t like nuts so I can only make it for me x
