As parents ourselves, we know how difficult it is to keep kids entertained for 5-6 weeks especially if you don’t have a long holiday break planned. So here are more fun family activities you can do with your kids during the Summer School Holidays. These activities are being held at Gladstone Pottery Museum from today, July 27 till the end of August.

Brick Carving
Thursday 27 July
Join their workshop to carve your own design into an unfired house brick with expert help. You can let your imagination run wild and take your artwork home with you. 11am to 3pm. Suitable for all ages and included with normal museum admission.
The Top Hat Trail
Tuesdays – Saturdays in August
Find the top hats hiding around the museum! Free gift and entry into a prize draw for everyone who takes part. £1 plus admission.

Summer Fun Day
Wednesday 2 August
Celebrate the start of the school holidays with facepainting, balloon modelling and Punch and Judy shows – all included with admission. 11am to 4pm
Summer Craft Activity – Crowns
Thursday 3 August
Make a crown at our drop in craft workshop. 11am to 3pm, included with admission.
Meet Toby Jugg
Wednesday 9 August
Travel back in time to the Victorian era and meet ‘Toby Jugg’, their costumed storyteller. Hear his tales about what life was like working in our bottle ovens. Normal admission applies.

Summer Craft Activity – Victorian Ladies and Gents
Thursday 10 August
Make your own Victorian lady or gent finger puppet in our drop in craft workshop. 11am to 3pm, included with admission.
Victorian Embroidery and Braiding
Friday 11 & 18 August
Have a go at different types of needlework and braiding in our drop-in craft workshop and make your own fabric creation to take home with you. 11am to 4pm, suitable for all ages and included with admission.

Art Deco Painting Workshop
Saturday 12 August
Learn more about the art deco style of painting famously used by artists such as Susie Cooper and Clarice Cliff. Paint your own decorative plate to take home. 11am to 12.30pm, £12 per person (includes museum admission). Please call 01782 237777 to book.

Penny Farthing and Victorian Circus Skills
Wednesday 23 August
Take part in drop-in Victorian circus workshops, try out toys from the past and watch the Ringmaster ride a penny farthing around our cobbled courtyard!

Summer Wildlife Day
Thursday 24 August
Join the Staffordshire Wildlife Trusts team! Find out more about the local wildlife with and take part in summer themed craft activities. 11am to 3pm, included with normal museum admission.

What Did The Victorians Do For Us?
Thursday 31 August
Join “Discover History” on a whistle stop tour of what the Victorians did for us. From improvements in health care, the introductions of the railway and changes within trade and industry, it makes you wonder whether this fast paced life was for the best or did some end up worse off than others……
11am to 3pm, included with museum admission.

Tips / Suggestion
Admission Fee – Do get yourself a Gladstone Annual Pass which is value for money if you plan on visiting the museum more than once in the year. Adult passes cost £11 each while children and concessions cost £9.25 each. This will allow you to enter the museum as many times as you want for the year.
Parking – The museum has a large free car park on Chadwick Street for visitors. You park up at the carpark and collect a token from Reception to exit the car park. There are also spaces outside the museum entrance for Blue Badge Holders.
