It has been super warm the last few weeks and as someone who loves all things summer, I am enjoying every bit of it. To help me cool down and relax in the evening, I love having a glass of chilled Rosé or Cider. Adding to my collection of sparkling drinks are two new selection from the Languedoc region in France. The first is Vranja Cider Pet Nat from André Fabre Cider House which redefines cider. This is a Pet Nat sparkling wine made from quince, apple and pear, with delicate bubbles and tangy aromas that make it an original drink for the festive season or summer time. Pet Nat stands for ‘petillant naturel’ which means that it is made with very little intervention . The Vranja Cider is a wonderful alternative to conventional sparkling wines and cider as it is bursting with orchard flavours. It has a lovely tangy sweet and sour flavour to it, hence you either love it or hate it. I found it refreshing with citrus aroma, especially when it is served well-chilled at 6°C as a pre-meal drink or with roast pork. You could also add this to make crispy batter when making sweet and sour dishes. Alternatively, you could also pair it with apple tart or apple pie. The Vranja Cider retails for 12.80€.
Secondly, we share Le Rendez-vous Alcohol-free Muscat from Famille Fabre white wine for those who are abstaining from alcoholic. Cultivated in Languedoc in Southern France, this is the first non-alcoholic wine produced by the Famille Fabre. The alcohol-free Muscat is produced in stainless steel tanks, with temperature control during fermentation. A cold stop of fermentation is used to retain a slight sweetness. The wine is then de-alcoholised by vacuum distillation. This process results in a pleasing and refreshing wine with delicate fizz. It is a refreshing summer drink with flavours of apricot, ginger, blossoms and hints of citrus. Perfect to be served during office lunch meals or with a summer fruit salad. The Muscat needs to be served chilled.
