We were recently planning for a family holiday to Netherlands (Holland) in Europe and an email request arrived in our inbox to review one of Trunki’s newest designs and this could not have come at a better time! Out of the two choices we were given, we decided to pick Percy The Police Car Trunki for Thomas, our 5-year-old son to take with him on our trip. To be honest, my son had always wanted a Trunki as we often see it being sold at Sainsburys’ but we told him we will only purchase one for him when we planned our next family holiday. So you can imagine his excitement when the Tunki actually arrived. It came beautifully packaged in a well-designed box hence the unboxing experience for him was very magical. Percy The Police Car Trunki is blue in colour with black & yellow wheels to mimic a real police car. Thomas felt like he was a little mini police officer and was totally excited when he saw the Trunki, he started riding it around the house and was already planning what he was going to take with him on the trip. The ride-on suitcase came with stickers, a Trunki passport as well as instructions all clearly marked and labelled. Thomas decided to personalise the Trunki by sticking the stickers on the Trunki as his imagination started running wild. In this post, we share our thoughts on the chilren’s travel luggage bag and if it is a good investment to keep your little ones entertained on long haul flights.

Percy the Police Car Trunki suitcase is the perfect size for inflight / carry on luggage hence you can take it even into a smaller sized aircrafts such as KLM (which we flew). It has an 18-litre capacity, a comfy saddle, secure lockable catches, a soft rubber trim, and an internal pocket and teddy bear seat belt. As you can see in the photo above, we packed all the essentials into the Trunki from snacks, books, spare change of clothes, soft toy, a bag with first aid kit items as well as coats and more food. We can assure you that the Trunki is sturdy and durable as it had been sat on (by both our kids), jumped on, dragged about and kicked about even before we left the house and it was still pristine!

The Trunki came with detachable straps which can be used to pull along the bag while a child is sitting on or secured hence making it easier to be carried onboard the flight (especially since we had to board the plane from the ground floor and take the aeroplane stairs up. My son loved holding on to the little glittery horns while I pulled him along the busy airport, this meant that he was seated in his place and I did not have to keep holding on to his hands or be worried that he might just wonder off. Although our flight from Manchester to Amsterdam only took a little more than an hour, the bag was also great for him to sit on and rest when he was tired or when we were stuck in the long airport immigration queue. As a family we fly long distance a lot, and he was not as restless as he normally is as he was really excited about his luggage bag and even took more responsibility of it by helping me to push it around. The versatile bag (which comes with a 5-year-guarantee) was really handy even when we took it on the train. I have to admit that we had a lot of locals looking at the bag strangely as I don’t think they had seen a Trunki before, they were both amused and curious and Thomas was very happy riding it along and showing off his driving skills.

What did we think?
Before we owned a Trunki I was not convinced that we needed one, but after taking it on our short-haul flight to Holland, I am convinced that it was a lifesaver and definitely kept my son entertained and occupied. We will be heading on a 14-hour long haul flight sometime early next year and I know for certain, I am going to be looking forward to the flight as my son is not going to be as restless or grumpy as he was the last time, thanks to his new found love – his Percy the Police Car Trunki!
How much does the Percy the Police Car Trunki cost and where can I buy it?
Percy the Police Car Trunki costs £39.99 (yes its a small investment, but trust us as you will have the peace of mind to keep little ones busy and interested in the journey especially if you are travelling on a long-distance flight). Trunki has a very user-friendly website and we would recommend that you have a look at the different his / her range so your child can pick their favourite. The Trunki can be purchased from their website here.

About Trunki
Rob Law entered a university competition to design a piece of luggage. He visited a department store for inspiration and ended up looking at ride-on toys. He thought about how to utilise the wasted space, and the idea for Trunki was born. Rob went on to win the competition. Rob received a grant from the Prince’s Trust to get his business off the ground. Later that year he signed a licensing deal with a Saudi Arabian toy company. The toy company went into liquidation, it wasn’t the launch pad that Rob had hoped for and instead he decided to go it alone. In May 2006, The first container of Trunki ride-ons arrived at Avonmouth completely unaware that they would revoluntionise family travel! Rob took Trunki into the Dragon’s Den, it was all going well, he even took Richard Farleigh for a spin, but things took a turn for the worst when Theo Paphitis got into fistycuffs with Trixie…With a rapidly growing team, they moved into our new office – a converted Chapel that they’ve nicknamed the Mothership, which comes complete with a games room and escape chute (or slide!). Their first major product launch following Trunki was BoostApak. The ingenious booster seat come backpack sold out within just 6 hours of being online! In August 2011 – They celebrated the sale of their one millionth Trunki by dressing up like space folk and on their 6th birthday, the first UK made Trunki rolled off the production line at their factory in Plymouth.
