[Ad-gifted] Halloween is one of our favourite times of the year, and my five-year-old daughter Jemma loves anything spooky! So, with Halloween fast approaching, we’ve been getting into the spirit with Orchard Toys’ Haunted House Lotto.
Part of the Orchard Toys mini games range, Haunted House Lotto is a fun matching and memory game aimed at children aged three years and over. It’s suitable for two to four players, making it a great little game for the whole family to enjoy.
Inside the compact box are four colourful haunted house playing boards and 20 spooky character cards, featuring a collection of creepy but friendly characters ready to move into their haunted houses.
The aim of the game is simple. Each player chooses a haunted house board, and the character cards are spread face down on the table. Players take turns turning over a card to see whether the character matches one in their haunted house.
If it does, they can add the character to their board. If not, they show the card to the other players before turning it face down again. The first player to collect all the characters needed to fill their haunted house wins!

What we thought of Orchard Toys Haunted House Lotto
We’ve always been fans of Orchard Toys games, and their Halloween-themed games are particularly popular in our house.
Like the other games in the range, Haunted House Lotto is bright, colourful and full of fun illustrations. The spooky characters are more cute than scary, making it ideal for younger children who enjoy a little Halloween fun without anything too frightening.
The game is really easy to set up, with no complicated instructions or lengthy preparation. It’s also quick to play, which is perfect for younger children who might not have the patience for a longer board game.

What I particularly like about Haunted House Lotto is that there’s more to it than simply matching pictures. Because the cards are placed face down, players need to remember where they’ve seen particular characters, adding an extra challenge to the game.
Jemma must have a much better memory than me because she won every game!
It’s a lovely way for children to practise their memory, concentration and matching skills without even realising they’re learning. It also encourages them to take turns, follow rules and develop their patience when they don’t find the character they’re looking for.
At five, Jemma is at a great age for games like this. She loves anything Halloween-themed, and the combination of spooky characters and the challenge of filling a haunted house is right up her street.

I also love the compact size of Orchard Toys‘ mini games. The little box doesn’t take up much room in the toy cupboard, and it’s small enough to pop into a bag when visiting friends or family. With Halloween falling during the October half term, it’s a handy game to have ready for a spooky playdate or a rainy afternoon indoors.
Although the game is aimed at children aged three and over, I think it’s one that younger and older children can enjoy playing together. The rules are simple enough for little ones to understand, while the memory element keeps things interesting for everyone.
Haunted House Lotto is another lovely addition to Orchard Toys‘ collection of educational games. It’s affordable, easy to play and offers plenty of screen-free entertainment, all with a fun Halloween twist.
And, as an added bonus, it’s a Halloween treat that doesn’t involve any sugar!
