Today, we will be sharing a review of The Great Game of Britain which was sent to us by the good people at John Adams. This board game kept us busy during lockdown3 as we played it on the days when we wanted to explore and feel like we were travelling again on the wonderful British train lines.
Players of this game will be on a nostalgic race around the historic railway networks of Britain where they get to choose six secret destination cards and explore Britain. The winner is the first person to commute from the mainline station to their 6 secret destinations but be sure to plan a very clever and careful trip around Britain. Roll a 6 on the dice and open or close a station of your choice, but watch out for the hazard cards as every time you change a line you must pick one up, sending you exactly where you don’t want to go! So stoke the engine’s boiler and get ready for a fast and furious race around Britain’s railway networks.

What did we think of The Great Game of Britain Board Game?
We love playing board games over the weekend and have a good collection of different board games but as our children get older, I find that they need to be stimulated even more by unique games such as The Great Game of Britain.
Many of you would remember playing this game as a child but for those who don’t, the object of the game is pretty simple…players would need to visit six places of interest in Britain, while using signals and diversions to prevent others from reaching their goals.
Recommended for children aged seven and above, this is a great family game where both adults and children can play together easily. You can play the game with two players or up to six players.
The game was fun to play with our children as they got to learn about various landmarks of places of interests as well as names of train stations and where they are located on the map. I found that this is one game that can play out for hours as it is not about getting to your destination but actually stopping others from reaching theirs or heading back to London.
On a positive note, it is a great game to teach children about the geography of the UK. On the negative side the game can take hours to complete and to add the train pieces as made from plastic and not metal (as you find in other games such as Monopoly).
Where can you buy The Great Game of Britain Board Game and how much does it cost?
You can buy the board game from Amazon here for £19.17. Best to check the latest price as it might fluctuate.
