Review: So Chill Mini Fridge from Canal Toys*

[Ad Gifted] If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about my nine-year-old daughter Margot, it’s that she loves anything that makes her feel a little bit more grown up. So when the So Chill Mini Fridge from Canal Toys arrived, I knew it would be a big hit. Libby Dallimore reviews.

While mini fridges might traditionally be associated with gamers, bedrooms or beauty spaces, we quickly found that the So Chill Mini Fridge has plenty of potential for a child who is growing into her own interests.

The So Chill Mini Fridge is compact and lightweight, measuring around 28.5cm high and weighing just 1.7kg. It chills to around 15 – 18 degrees below ambient temperature and comes in a sleek black finish. There are an assortment of funky stickers included to customise the outside of the fridge which has a moving handle, a viewing window and a removable shelf and door pocket inside. It also comes with a USB power cable, meaning it can be used at home or on the go.

The fridge can hold up to six 330ml cans, so we put some drinks inside to see how much space there was. Margot isn’t actually a fizzy drink fan, so the cans were very much there for demonstration purposes rather than because she was planning a midnight drinks stash!

What we thought of the So Chill Mini Fridge

I was impressed with how easy it was to get started, the USB connection makes it simple to power so set up really was as simple as plug in and off you go. Margot’s favourite part was using all the stickers to customise and decorate the outside. The transparent window on the door is also a nice little touch because you can see what’s inside without constantly opening the door and there’s even a little door pocket inside which Margot was thrilled by. It’s not particularly usable as it’s rather narrow but it does make it feel like a ‘real’ fridge.

One thing worth knowing is that this is more of a cooler than an actual conventional household fridge, so it doesn’t instantly chill warm drinks. It works best when you put already-chilled drinks inside and use it to keep them cool. It’s also worth noting that the manufacturer advises against using it for food, so although we experimented with drinks and snacks for the purpose of our review, we wouldn’t recommend using it to store perishable food.

For Margot, though, I actually think its best use is going to be completely different. She has started collecting a few skincare bits and is already planning to use the fridge for her cleanser and moisturiser. There’s something about having her own little beauty fridge that makes her feel particularly grown up! She’s also planning on using it to cool her NeeDoh squishies when they get a little too soft. Honestly, that might be what gets the most use!

Overall, the So Chill Mini Fridge is a fun, versatile gadget with far more uses than we initially expected. It’s compact enough for a child’s bedroom, looks stylish and gives them a little bit of independence. For Margot, it has quickly gone from being a mini drinks fridge to a skincare station, squishy cooler and one very cool bedroom accessory.
