We love board games, and if you follow the blog, you will know that we often share reviews of various family-friendly board games such as Dobble 360, Dixit or Picture Show as we find board games are a great way to spend quality time together as a family. Today we will be sharing a review of another fantastic board game from Asmodee called Pandemic which is perfect for older children and even adults as it encourages all the players to work together as a team while researching vital cures in an effort to save the world.
As a player, you will be part of a skilled member of a disease-fighting team where you and the other players work together to keep the world safe from outbreaks and epidemics. Only through teamwork will you have a chance to find a cure. First published in 2007, the game’s distinct combination of cooperative gameplay, engrossing premise and compelling design have proved a hit with everyone from hard-core gamers to casual players. The Pandemic game line includes multiple expansions and stand-alone titles. You and your team are the only things standing in the way of deadly diseases that threaten the world. The fate of humanity lies in your hands. Are you game for this?

What we thought of Pandemic Board Game
The box contains a game board, 7 Role Cards, 7 Pawns, 6 Research Stations, 6 Wooden Markers, 96 Disease Cubes, 48 Infection Cards and is suitable for 2 to 4 players (the more players the easier to win it). Although the board game recommends kids of age 10-years-old and above, I would say the game is probably more suited for older children, teenagers or adults. I would also recommend you starting the game from the easy level with 4 epidemic cards to give you time to learn the rules and get used to how the game works. You can always add extra challenges and more epidemic cards for experienced players.

The game can take anywhere from 45 minutes or a few hours to complete depending on the difficulty level. The aim of the game is to beat the game by trying to cure the planet of 4 deadly diseases. The different characters, as well as their skill set, makes the game more interesting. Both my kids read the instructions and set the game up by themselves. I found that I had to keep explaining as we went along and would suggest for the game to be played by teenagers or adults instead. The good thing about the game is that it promotes teamwork and working as a team. The game also helped my children identify with the different countries, the cities and their location on the map. I also have to add that the game is well made and although the tokens are made from plastic, it is of good quality. This is such an interesting game especially if you easily get bored with the easier and older available board games. I would say this is a great way to get family and friends together on a weekend, during festive holidays or on game nights.

You and your team are the last defence standing in the way of deadly diseases that threaten the world! From designer Matt Leacock, Pandemic is a cooperative game of teamwork for two to four players. |
As members of an elite disease control team, you must keep four deadly diseases at bay. Work together as you travel the globe to treat infections while collecting the cards you need to discover a cure for each disease. |
The clock is ticking as outbreaks and epidemics fuel the spreading plagues. As a cooperative game, players win or lose together. |
Only by working together can you keep the outbreaks in check and find the cures in time! |

|
Over the course of the game, players use actions to move between hotspots while treating diseases and setting up a network of research stations that help them cure diseases and make movement more efficient. |
Each player manages a hand of cards matching the colours of the four diseases. These cards allow them to travel more quickly between cities or—if a single player can collect five cards of the same colour—discover a cure for a disease. |
But plenty of challenges stand in their way. Outbreaks can spread diseases across the board and random epidemics can intensify a disease in a moment’s notice. |

This sounds like a really interesting game, especially considering the world as it is right now. It sounds like it would be perfect to play on an autumn afternoon as it doesn’t take too long to complete.
No it can take around 45 minutes, but for younger kids it takes longer as it is a slower process to solve the issues
This sounds like a great game and very timely! I think my family would definitely enjoy playing this.`
Yes they would indeed, great for game night
How appropriate is this game, I like that it’s teaching them what’s currently happening but also seeing how they can save the world at the same time.
Agree, and helping them with geography, working together and solving issues
Ive heard of this game, many of my friends play tabletop games and board games etc, so no doubt they will have played this at some point, its big business but also has a strong following by those who love these games, great review.
Thank you Liam, so glad you think so
We’ve been playing pandemic legacy and love it, although we do have a few more games of it left to play before we finish it x
How lovely! That would be our next game to get for sure
It sounds like a fun game that would be of interest to children, especially with the current pandemic. Kids love games that are challenging and fun and it sounds like this is exactly that.
Absolutely agree, this is a great game if yours are super bored with the usually games
Considering the situation at the moment this game deffo fits the bill so to speak. Board games are a great way to get families together for sure x
I agree, that is what caught my attention in the first place and it is a great game
This sounds like an interesting game, quite suitable to be played during these troubled times and, who knows, maybe understand better what is going on. The rules does sound a bit more complicated so I understand why you say it is suitable more for teens and adults than younger children.
Thank you for understanding my review so clearly. The kids are excited to play the game again but with supervision.
Fab timing for this one! It’s probably a bit old for my little ones but def one to put on the Christmas list for my nephew!
How wonderful to hear that, he will love the game
This looks a brilliant game and one I know Scott would love to play with the girls . It’s their kind of thing 🙂
How wonderful! Enjoy your game night
Not sure I would want to play this with what is happening in the world right now! However, we do love a family board game you can play all weekend.
We are using the boardgame to teach our kids about what is happening and I think it is a good way to explain to kids

This looks like a fun game. Definitely seems appropriate for the current climate doesn’t it?
