Did you know that Stratford-Upon-Avon Butterfly Farm is UK’s Largest Tropical Butterfly Paradise? Hence we decided to organise a family day out trip to visit the exotic rainforest and to meet its stunning butterflies in the midst of a lush landscape of tropical blossom with splashing waterfalls and fish-filled pools while we were staying in Warwickshire.
The tropical paradise is home to hundreds of the world’s most spectacular and colourful butterflies in the world. We had the chance to see them flying around, see them feeding and even occasionally landing on us.
So keep on reading to find out more about our day at the Butterfly Farm.
What did we think?
The whole visit to the Butterfly Farm will take you approximately 60 to 90 minutes once you have checked in. I would recommend for you to arrive 10 minutes earlier to your pre-booked slot so there is no delay to your visit.
They are still practising a one-way system and you are allowed to enter as many times as you please during your time slot. We did just that, and since it was such a hot day when we visited, we had to exit to cool down in the souvenir shop (as they had fans there) before we went in again.
The rainforest flight area is where you would spot lots of colourful butterflies feeding and flying all around. Be prepared for them to land on you especially if you are wearing a bright flowery top. Also, walk carefully as they may also be on the floor.We opted to get the Butterfly Identification Booklet for our kids as this gave them the chance to tick off the butterflies which they spoted during our visit.
There is also the Minibeast Metropolis section where you will be able to see one of the largest insect collections in the UK. It is also home to snakes, reptiles, amphibians and other invertebrates.
Both my children were able to spot the Poison Arrow Frogs which originate from French Guiana as well as the Giant Leaf Insect and Tarantulas amongst other insects and reptiles.
We did a few circles until we had spotted all the butterflies on our booklet before we ended our tour at their nature-inspired gift shop which is a great place to purchase some sourvenirs as well.
All in all, a fabulous trip where we had a wonderful time discovering and appreciating butterflies. We only wished it was slightly cooler on the day as it was the hottest day in the UK.
We would totally recommend heading to the Butterfly Farm if you are visiting Stratford-Upon-Avon, a perfect family day out for the whole family.
How much are the tickets?
A family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children costs £24.75. Separate adult and children’s tickets are also sold separately and concession tickets are also available. Do note that carers and children under 3s go Free. You can book your tickets here.
What Are their Opening Hours
Do allow enough time for your journey and parking and try to arrive a few minutes before your chosen time so that the queue marshal can check you in safely. If you arrive early you may be asked to wait. If you arrive late they cannot guarantee your entrance and you will be given the next available space on the day. Have your tickets either downloaded on a device with a white background or printed, ready for scanning at reception.
Jan – Feb & November – December : 10am to 5pm
March & October : 10am to 5.30pm
April – September : 10am to 6pm
Where is It?
The Butterfly Farm is just five minutes’ walk from the town centre, just over the river Avon footbridge, opposite the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Their butterfly signs will take you from the footbridge to their entrance passing the large Ferris Wheel.

It looks so pretty there. We have been to a few butterfly houses and it is so lovely to see them all flying around and feeding on the flowers.

I’m a big fan of butterfly houses. In the United States, one of my favorites is in a remote area of Georgia called Calaway Gardens. I have an appreciation for the friendliness and trust of butterflies to interact with humans. This venue you posted about seems interesting. Should I find myself close, I might consider making the trip to see for myself.
