Ahh summer is finally upon us and one thing my whole family love is to indulge in homegrown berries and apples as we love the flavours of local English berries compared to the ones that are imported. Last weekend we had the chance to head to Woore Fruit Farm located in Shropshire to pick some strawberries as they have just opened for the season.
Woore Fruit Farm is a family-run farm that is open from May through October every year. They grow all sorts of fruits such as raspberries, gooseberries, apples, blackberries, damsons, black plums, pumpkin etc. so worth checking their page to keep informed on when the fruits are ready for picking.
What did we think about the farm?
My husband and I don’t tend to grow our own fruits except for a handful of raspberries which grow towards mid/late summer months so heading to a local farm to pick freshly grown fruit is the next best thing for us. We also love supporting local business and buying organic or local produce so this is a great way to support a local farm at the same time.
If you are heading to the farm go early, as we got there at 10.30am and it was already looking busy. The farm which is family-run does ensure there are plenty of fruits to pick and if they feel the fruits have been overpicked on the day, they will close the farm early. The strawberry trays are ample as their car parking space so you don’t feel overwhelmed with the crowd when you are there. Do also note that the fruits ripen at different times, so it is important to only pick the ones which are ready and ripe.
My children thoroughly enjoyed learning about fruit picking and felt as if they were on an adventure. We filled up three tubs of strawberries which I have since made jam, frozen whole fruits to make smoothies though out the warm summer months, made strawberry cupcakes, served them with ice cream as well as cream. So it has been a strawberry themed week in my house. Don’t forget to check out their gift shop as they do sell locally made apple juice, cider and beautiful rocks and themed fridge magnet as well. We loved the experience and can’t wait to visit the farm again.
How much does it cost to go to Woore Fruit Farm?
Entry is absolutely FREE so as parking, you just need to pay for the fruits you pick according to the weight. We paid £2 for a pound’s (450g) worth of strawberries. Which is half the price of what you would pay in the supermarkets and the fruits were fresh, tasted amazing and most importantly you are supporting a local family business.

We haven’t been strawberry or any other fruit picking for a few years now. I think we are well overdue. It’s such a great day out and fun for all.

Love this time of year, strawberries galore but I’d like to go and pick my own. I’d be a greedy strawberry thief lol! It’s fun going to pick your own fruits, nice family activity to do.

We go fruit picking every summer! It’s always such a lovely time – and we always get wayyyy to many fruits.

Strawberry picking is one of our favourite things to do as a family. It’s a little tradition now. This place looks lovely x
