We often visit museums whenever we go on a holiday as we love making our trips both fun and educational at the same time for our children. So while we were holidaying in Stratford-Upon-Avon, we visited Tudor World History Museum to find out more about the exhibits they kept there as well as the property.
The Tudor Museum is located on Sheep Street and is accessed via the 400-year-old cobbled stone courtyard and the museum itself is within a very old building, which looks similar to Little Moreton Hall, with narrow passageways, uneven floors, low beams and a set of steps up to the first floor and narrow set of stair back down.
The building itself looked very interesting and we could not wait to explore and find out what was inside.
What did we think of it?
The museum is suitable for all ages and both our children aged 11 and 8 felt comfortable during our visit, but you might wish to let your children know in advance that there are figures in some of the exhibits which may look scary especially with the added atmospheric lighting.
Visiting museums can sometimes be boring but my children were kept entertained as there are lots of interactive elements such as touchscreen to find out more about certain historic events and videos as well.Â

There were tables set up with an array of food, a thrown to sit on as well as a four-poster bed to lie on. My children also took part in a written witch trial as well as tried their hand at quill writing in the schoolroom.
I loved the fact that the museum shows different aspects of Tudor life in an exciting and atmospheric way.  My children were stimulated and curious about the statues, especially when we were in the plague room exhibit.
We took about forty-five minutes to do the tour but we stopped to read all the signs and participated in the interactive elements. If you are just walking through, the tour would take a lot shorter.  A visit to the Tudor World museum is a must if are keen to teach children a little bit about Tudor history.

How much are the tickets?
Children aged 6 – 15 are charged £3.50 while adult tickets cost £6.75 each. Children aged 5 and under enter for free. There are also concession tickets available.
A family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children would cost £17.50. Do check on their website for the latest pricing as these may vary during seasonal events (Halloween/Christmas etc.)
What are their Opening Hours?
The museum is open from 10.30am until 5.30pm everyday 364 days a year (except Christmas Day) and on the odd day of filming (BBC).

Things to Note:
-
Pushchairs would be difficult to navigate through the museum due to its ages. However, staff are happy to safely store pushchairs in their storeroom while you do the tour.
-
For tourists, they do store baggage and luggage at £1 per baggage in a locked storeroom (obviously at owners own risk). However, they do not charge those who are visiting the museum.
-
The museum also organises Shakespeare Tour (Town) at 2pm on Saturdays (This can take anywhere from 90-120 minutes)
- If you are keen on Ghost Tours, then why not sign up for their Ghost Tours which taken place at 6pm every evening (extra tours on Saturdays). This takes around 60-80 minutes.
-
There is no cafe in the museum, however, Sheep Street (and Stratford) is full of eateries of all sorts!
- Dogs are welcomed

Where is Tudor World Museum?
The museum is situated along Sheep Street in a big Tudor building. Go under the arch and along the cobbled stoned courtyard to find the entrance. The build is a 2-minute walk from the Royal Shakespeare Company.  There are a number of long and short-stay car parks throughout the town. We parked at the Leisure Centre and walked to Tudor World which took us roughly 15-20 minutes. There are two Disabled Parking areas at the rear of the building in the service yard behind Wetherspoons.

About Tudor World
Tudor World museum is run and owned by the husband and wife team, Janet & John Ford – and a dedicated team of part-time actors and enthusiasts. Janet and John took over the museum at the end of 2007. The museum has no funding or grants and relies completely on you the visitor to help in the upkeep of the historic building. Despite limited resources, this plucky museum tries to put in as much ‘punch’ as possible.
Tudor World is two fascinating experiences in one. During the daytime, the museum is open, showcasing the different aspects of Tudor life but in the evening, lantern-lit ghost tours take place. Hear about the spirits of the sixteenth-century barn, described as one of the most haunted buildings in England, and experience some of the bizarre goings-on for yourself. This one is definitely not for the faint of heart!

This sounds like it was really good fun. The prices for entry are really reasonable. I think we’d enjoy a day out there.
I know both me and C would love this, we both love that period of history. I have never been here before but definitely somewhere I now want to visit.
