What did we think of Mother’s Day Cake And Bake Slices?

I often find that there might be one person in a family who is gluten intolerant or who might be coeliac but the rest of the family would have to change their eating habits to accommodate this person.  It becomes even more difficult when you are celebrating festivities like Mother’s Day and having the extended family join the dinner party as well.

Honeybuns, a local business based in North Dorset owned by Emma and  her husband Matt specialises in creating gluten-free/vegan and dairy-free cakes which are not only delicious but moist as well.  These cake slices also doubles as the perfect birthday cake as you could stack the cake slices and add a few candles on them.

The gift set we were sent for Mother’s Day included 8 cake slices which were individually packed in a beautiful white tin. The flavours included Lemon and Ginger Shortbread, Milk Chocolate Brownie, Fruit Flapjack, Oaty Dark Choc Bar With Coconut, Persian Flapjack, Cinnamon Slice, Oaty Raspberry Bar and Millionaire’s Slice.

We decided to test these out at a friend’s house between adults and kids of different age ranges.  We did not tell anyone that the cakes were gluten-free or vegan (as four of the slices were vegan) to see if this would appeal to the normal family who were not gluten intolerant.  The cake slices were cut into small portions so we could try all the flavours and we scoffed the lot very quickly. The cake slices were gorgeous, moist and bursting with  flavours, each one very unique. You could not tell that the cakes were gluten-free or vegan and we can’t wait to get another batch ordered again.

What did we think of All Day Cook Book?

Emma Goss-Custard has previously written Gluten-free Baking Cook Book featuring muffins, cakes, traybakes and brownies and this is her second cook book titled All Day Cook Book consisting of over 100 gluten-free and veggie recipes.  The book starts off with an introduction to store cupboard ingredients used and then the recipes are split according to the main meals ie Breakfast, Lunch, Treats, Supper, Sides, Puddings and Festivals.

The book is attractive with lots of photos and interesting illustrations. I love that the recipe for the Pineapple Upside Down Cake is printed ‘Upside Down’. There are recipes for bread, quiches, pizzas, traybakes and biscuits. The recipes seem easy to follow if you have all the ingredients at hand such as sorghum flour, quinoa flour, ground golden flaxseed, chestnut flour and tapioca flour.  I love the handy tips which helps to convert the recipes to nut free or dairy free options. The cook book makes a beautiful gift to anyone who loves cooking/baking, especially gluten-free or veggie meals.
