Review: Valentines Hamper by The Artisan Food Company*

[Ad-gifted] I love French food and being half French I know how hard it is to often find the same tastes over here in the UK, but when we were sent this beautiful French Food Hamper from The Artisan Food Company, I knew I would get a nostalgic taste of my youth.

The Artisan Food Company have created their online shop where you can buy from a collective of artisanal food and drinks companies all in one place. Allowing you to get products that would otherwise be hard to find, if you had to search in each artisan shop yourself.

These kind of treats are extra special at the moment, due to us being in lockdown and as we’re not able to mooch around the shops and search for these tasty and unique products, when we fancy eating something a bit different or individual. With The Artisan Food Company you can find suppliers and manufacturers of Artisan Fish, Fruit Juice, Marinades and Charcuterie, as well as, varieties of salt, chocolates and a selection of drinks, amongst just some.

What I thought of the Hamper from The Artisan Food Company

I shared this hamper on a date night with my husband, when we’d finally managed to get the kids off to bed. The idea behind the hamper is all to do with l’aperitif, a French tradition that takes place before the meal where you have small snacks and normally drink a spirit-based drink before you sit down for your evening meal. Instead, we sat with a glass of wine and with our canapé style treats, whilst watching a film. It was a perfect little treat, as we can’t and haven’t been able to get out for some time with everything that’s happening here in the UK and around the World.

Within the hamper, there was a bottle of dry white wine and a selection of spreads that you could put on things like little toasted bread or crackers and you could eat them as they are or perhaps with a bit of charcuterie and or cheese on the side. Altogether there were six spreads, Caviar d’aubergines (which had aubergine tomato and herbs within it), Délice de légumes du Soleil (vegetables from the sun) with goats cheese, Artichaut au basilic, which was really creamy and one of my favourites, Tapenade noir and verte, both of which I also enjoyed, and Délice de tomates séchées (sun dried tomatoes).

It was a lovely treat to sit with this nice hamper and be able to try these French specialities from the comfort of your own home. These aren’t the kind of food products that I would easily be able to find locally (so within around 6 miles). I am sure I would find them in perhaps Manchester, but this is a good 30 miles drive from where we live, so being able to find these market-style products online makes it so handy. The hampers also make for great gifts, as they can take you out of your food comfort zone and allow you to explore flavours you might not discover simply from your local supermarket.

You can choose to buy individual items or buy hampers as gifts, which means that when you are looking for that special gift to enjoy as a Valentines treat, or whether you want to buy some fancy canapés and wines to make your night in feel like a night out, then check out what The Artisan Food Company have on offer, the hamper we received is no longer available, however, they have a beautiful and perfect alternative in their selection of Valentines Day Hampers.
