John Godber’s Do I Love You returns to the New Vic

Back by popular demand, multi award-winning playwright John Godber’s vibrant toe-tapping comedy Do I Love You? returns to the New Vic this May.

Following a sell-out UK tour throughout summer 2024, Do I Love You? captured the heart and imagination of the nation. Featuring choreography by Northern Soul World Dance Champion 2022 Sally Molloy, from Staffordshire, and the return of its fantastic cast and characters, this affectionate love letter to Northern Soul, complete with a superb soundtrack, is destined to reach new heights.

As a life-long fan of Northern Soul, Godber conveys the passion of the movement and its continued popularity through the lives of a trio of twenty-somethings – Sally, Nat and Kyle – who, far beyond their home city of Hull, find excitement, purpose and the tribe they’ve been looking for. Now they can’t get enough; from Brid Spa to Stoke, from Chesterfield to the Tower Ballroom, our young soulies are determined to keep the faith!

About the John Godber Company

The John Godber Company was established in 2011 with the purpose of allowing the playwright John Godber to continue expressing himself through the dramatic form. John and his playwright/director/actor wife, Jane Thornton, decided to create their own company in order to keep control of their work.

The John Godber Company, which has a base in East Yorkshire, often produces national tours out of Theatre Royal Wakefield, and partner-productions at Hull New Theatre and East Riding Theatre amongst others. The John Godber Company believes in putting the artist at the centre of the theatrical creative process.
