Afternoon teas are fabulous and so quintessentially British! We love heading to afternoon tea to savour both sweet and savoury treats, and festive-themed ones are even better because they get us into the Christmas mood. We were recently invited to head to Bridgemere, a Wyevale Garden Centre in Nantwich, Cheshire, to try out their new Festive Afternoon Tea with Prosecco, which will be served until Christmas Eve. If you are an avid reader of ours, you’ll remember us heading there last year for their Tea with Santa with our kids, which was a fabulous experience. So we were excited to see what they had to offer us this time. Read on to find out what we thought…
We love heading to Bridgemere, especially at Christmastime because the decorations are stunning, with pretty lights, and the sale is not to be missed! We also enjoy visiting because it’s easy to get to and there’s plenty of free parking available. It’s a fabulous destination for the whole family – even if you have toddlers in tow.
We have just shared some of the decorations you can find in store. There are also lots of aromatic garden plants and festive-themed plant decorations, both for indoors and outdoors, available to buy. Some items are very reasonably priced and others more expensive, so there’s a wide range to suit all budgets.
We recommend booking your Festive Afternoon Tea session on the company’s website before you arrive because slots are limited and you don’t want to be waiting around or left disappointed. When you arrive at Bridgemere Garden Centre, there are two eateries. One is the Garden Kitchen Cafe and the other is the Garden Kitchen Restaurant. Head to the Garden Kitchen Restaurant and approach a member of staff, who will guide you to your table, which will already have your name placed on it.
The Festive Afternoon Tea with Prosecco
That’s us at the start of our Festive Afternoon Tea, which starts at 2.30pm daily until Christmas Eve. The little touches of the Christmas crackers, as well as the Christmas card, were really nice. It would have been more festive if there was more decorations placed on the trays.
The Festive Afternoon Cake Stands came in three tiers. The first tier consisted of St Clements cake, blackberry pavlova, mini macarons and a festive iced fruit cake. The iced fruit cake was our favourite, while the macarons were perfect with their little feet and being soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The St Clements cake was a little too sweet for us, and we were also hoping for some mince pies, which were missing.
The second tier consisted of two large cranberry and cinnamon scones, clotted cream and jams. Made from wholemeal flour, the scones tasted delicious and very festive! Our scones came cold, but when we asked for them to be warmed up the staff were very courteous and obliged. The scones easily broke because they were soft and almost melted in the mouth, so we’d advise handling them with care.
The third tier was filled with sandwiches. There was Somerset brie, cranberry and spinach on white farmhouse loaf; and turkey with sage and onion stuffing and mayonnaise on malted, seeded farmhouse loaf. All were delicious and gorgeous, but the Somerset brie was our favourite and we couldn’t stop eating them!
How much does the Festive Afternoon Tea cost?
