Review: The Tawny Hotel, Staffordshire*

[Ad-gifted] Tired of your hectic lifestyle and need a short escapism away from the hustle and bustle of the city life? We share a hidden gem called The Tawny Hotel, located in the heart of the English countryside in Staffordshire.

We were invited to experience a weekend away to find out more about The Tawny Hotel’s facilities such as their lodging, restaurant, room service, facilities etc and share with our readers.  The Hotel is the perfect location for couples, families or those with dogs as it is a dog-friendly hotel.

We had the opportunity to relax, unwind and enjoy nature as we explored the woodland, secluded dells and enchanting follies…. all 70 acres of them plus the lakes.  So come away with us, as you find out more about what we did during our weekend getaway at this rural Staffordshire location.

We relaxed for a while enjoying our minibar and the view before deciding to explore the area. The reception does offer free bikes, helmets and locks but these need to be pre-booked. They also have wellies available if you need them. We were lucky as we had good weather, so decided to walk around for a good hour, exploring the lookout area, enjoying nature as we watched ducks swim past and even had the opportunity to play some ping pong as we discovered the hidden ping pong table.

We headed back to the treehouse to refresh before heading out for dinner at The Plumicorn Restaurant. I would recommend that you pre-book your dinner time slot, in case they are busy. The restaurant looked inviting and the staff were attentive and helpful with our orders. It is wonderful to find out that the Team of Chefs use seasonal and local ingredients in the menu. Staff checked to see if we had any allergies which is a good sign for those worried about how their meals are prepared.

We were starving at this point and luckily were served freshly baked bread with butter while we waited for our mains. The restaurant served a selection of beverages such as cocktails, wines and juices. I ordered Chicken which was served with celeriac, hen of the woods, heritage carrot and bacon jam while my husband ordered the Dunwood Sirloin Steak which was served with pommes anna, black garlic, tenderstem and bordelaise sauce. Our meal size portion was just right and the flavours were delicious. For starters, both my children ordered the Mini Cheesy Garlic Bread and for mains, my daughter then ordered the Beef Burger which came with hand cut chips and coleslaw while my son ordered the Hand-stretched Classic Mozzarella and Sicilian Tomato Pizza. We were quite full at this point hence just ordered two dessert to share, the first a chocolate themed dessert and second a cheesecake.  Our meal was delicious and every mouthful savoured, so compliments to the chef and kitchen team.

We then walked back to the treehouse to relax before getting the hot tub and the bath ready.  The hot tub was placed outside on our private balcony.  The hot tub was nice and warm but the outdoor temperature was too cold for me (around 7 degrees), but my husband and children did not mind, so they had a fabulous few hours enjoying the night scenery in the hot tub while I on the other hand, preferred the warmth of the room, hence enjoyed a quiet relaxing bath as I watched tv and read a book. It was bliss!

We could not believe how quickly the night came to an end, our children were tired and watched some tv before they soundly slept, while my husband and I enjoyed the bottle of complimentary prosecco and relaxed.

The next day, we woke up nice and early for a delicious breakfast. We had a choice of cold meats, cheese, fruits, yoghurt, fresh juices or a warm cooked breakfast and hot drinks.  It was a good spread! My son ordered  savoury pancakes with bacon, my daughter ordered sweet pancakes with fresh fruits, while my husband ordered Staffordshire Oatcakes and I ordered poached eggs and avocado. Again our meal was cooked to perfection.

How much does it cost to stay a night at The Tawny Hotel and how do I book a room?

We stayed at the Hillside Family Treehouse which houses up to 2 adults and 2 children. The rate for a night here starts from £575 with breakfast. You can also opt to stay at their Boathouse Family or if you are travelling as a couple or or you could stay at the Wildwood Huts that has a more affordable Average Room Rate (ARR), which starts from £225.  Do note that there is a 2-night minimum stay for all Friday and Saturday Check-ins as well as during Peak period.  You can head to their website here to book your stay.

• This is a dog-friendly hotel, dogs are allowed to stay at Glade Huts and Lookouts for a small fee.
• Bring good walking shoes, if you forget, don’t worry as the hotel reception also provides wellies (for rental) if you need them
• GAIA Spa Treatments are available, but needs to be pre-booked
• Free bikes, helmets and locks are available to borrow from the hotel so you can explore the 70 acre estate and gardens. Pre-booking is recommended.
