This recipe come from a French book (to be precise a book from Alsace) called Les Petits Gâteaux d’Alsace also known as S’Bredlebuech in Alsacien by Suzanne Roth.
I bought the book a couple of years ago and test a few of the recipes each year to add to my current ones. I tend to make around 20 to 30 different types depending on the time I have and how I feel.
Once they are finished, they are bagged and given away to friends and family.

Recipe
Preparation time: 40minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes per batch
Temp: 180 C
Ingredients
125g ground almonds
125g butter soft
125g plain flour
1 pinch of clove
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 pinch of baking powder
1 egg
1 to 2 tablespoon of milk if needed
1 tablespoon of cocoa
Garnish with jam (preferably raspberry) and flaked almonds (I did not use the almonds)

Method
Soften the butter.
Mix the flour with the almonds, sugar, baking powder, spices and cocoa.
Make a well and add the egg and butter and if required the milk.
Form into a smooth dough (do not overwork)
Refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours
Form into small balls, with your fingers, make a little well in the centre, put a little jam in the well and sprinkle with the almonds if you decide to use them
Put the balls onto a buttered tray (or line it with parchment paper and bake at 180 C for approximately 20 minutes
