All our children have always loved wooden toys and especially the BRIO make as their toys have always been so easy to play with when they were babies and they are also very attractive for little kids. We were recently sent their latest toy, the BRIO’s Play and Learn Musical Caterpillar to review and feature on our website.  This toy is perfect for little ones especially for those from the ages of around 24 months (or even below) onwards to help them develop their hand coordination, motor skills and start understanding the basic of creating music. The BRIO Play & Learn Musical Caterpillar consists of a plastic board with 12 round sections for little ones to fill the small round wooden knobs in.  Do note that you would require 2 pcs of AAA batteries which are not included (luckily we had some spares in the house).

Now the toy is relatively easy to play with, little Arya who just turned two this month easily picked up the little round wooden pieces and placed it on the wooden board to create different musical melodies.  Do note that this combination must somehow connect the head and the tail of the caterpillar.  In total there are about 10 different combinations which you can create and these combinations are clearly shown in the brochure which comes in the box. Parents can use this as a guide to ensure kids use all the available combinations as each combination creates a different melody. We found Arya totally getting excited when she created a new tune as the yellow lights would light up.

This is such a fun way for Arya to be exposed to the basics of music and how to create the melody using the simple movement of the knobs. BRIO toys have been known to be child-friendly and this Play & Learn Musical Caterpillar is no different. The knobs are perfect for little ones to hold as they are light.  My 5-year-old son was also very curious about the game and gave it a few plays which show that this game is also great for slightly older kids who love creating music.

What is great about the Musical Catepillar?

The BRIO Play & Learn Musical Caterpillar toy has been created very smartly to help develop the skills and senses of growing children, from recognising music, hand motor skills development, thinking skills to help them create the combination so that the melodies would be created and not just a single note. Arya was totally excited whenever she saw the catepillar’s yellow light glowing when the right melody combination line was created. The toy is also compact and can be easily packed away to be taken out on days out or short camping holidays with the little ones.

How much is it and where can I buy it from?

Perfect gift for any child around the ages of 24 months (or below) Brio’s Play & Learn Musical Caterpillar retails for £34.99 and you can purchase it here.
