Girls Weekend Away in Manchester & Visit to Mr Su’s Noodles

[Ad-gifted] A couple of week’s ago, I headed to Manchester for a well deserved weekend away with my foodie girlfriends before the hectic Christmas period kicked in.

Our plan included booking a Thai massage, visiting Manchester’s Christmas Market, Lunch at Mr Su’s Noodles, shopping at Manchester Arndale, enjoying an aperitive at Salut Wines followed by dinner at Louisiana style seafood restaurant called Crabbish.  We then ended the night with a fabulous sleepover slumber party.

The next day was as exciting as we headed to Gooey Bakery & Cafe to enjoy freshly made breakfast and a quick stop at the Manchester Christmas Markets again before heading for lunch in Chinatown and then saying our goodbyes. As you can tell, it was a weekend to remember!

So keep on reading to find out more about our weekend and to find out more about Mr Su’s Noodles, as we visit Manchester, the city which was once known as Cottonopolis during the Victorian era.

It had been a while since we all got together for a girls trip away, the last time we organised a similar trip, we went to London on a foodie trip to visit Malaysian Carnival in Brickendonbury, Hertford in 2022. So it was wonderful to get together again for a well deserved break.

We decided to start the day with a visit to a local Thai massage called Sarasin Spa for a relaxing massage before we met the rest of the girls for our lunch meet at Mr Su’s Noodles.

With us girls being foodies and multicultural, mainly hailing from Malaysia, we can tell the difference between good food and average food. With the cold winter day upon us, we were craving for a warming bowl of hot noodles to comfort our soul.

We headed to Mr Su’s Noodles for lunch to enjoy their authentic and freshly made noodles. Located in the Manchester Vita Circle Square area which is popular to University students, the restaurant was relaxed, inviting and conveniently located from the train/tram stations.

What is best about Mr Su’s Noodles is that they emphasize on freshness hence all their noodles are freshly made using traditional techniques on site everyday and the ingredients are thoughtfully sourced. So wholesome delicious noodles served in a casual environment. 

You can create your own personalised bowl of noodles in just 3 steps, first you get to choose your noodles ie rice noodles, street noodles,  ramen or hotpot noodles. Next choose your soup from a choice of stock, tomato, tum yum, spicy, seafood or pickle. You have both spicy and non spicy options, and if their spicy soup is not spicy enough, don’t worry, they provide chilli oil as well.  We went oohing and aahing when we spotted the availability of their delicious Chinese Vinegar on the table which was a great condiment to our noodles.

Next, choose your topping from a choice of  minced beef, roasted duck, grilled chicken, mixed vegetables,  stewed beef or satay chicken and a meal like this will cost you between £9.50 to £10.90 (very reasonably priced for what you get).  Pay for your order and then wait for your number to be called out. You also have the option to create your own Malatang bowl where you pick all the ingredients and the staff charge you according to the weight of your bowl.

Once your order number is called, you then head over to the condiment section to add on spring onions and extra chilli if you prefer. Mr Su’s Noodles don’t serve hot drinks but bottled water as well as chilled drinks such as Soy Drink, Aloe Vera Drink, Herbal Tea and ‘Pop’ is available from their fridge.

There are also starters available such as chicken satay, homemade dumplings as well as popcorn chicken and spring rolls amongst others. These can cost anywhere from  £2.60 to £5.60. 

What is great about the restaurant is that you can head there with a group of friends and everyone can choose their preference, spicy or non spicy, dry noodles or noodles with broth.  The meat served in the shop is also Halal meat so great place to go to with your Muslim friends. 

Their noodles tasted authentic and the meat is melt in the mouth. The service is quick and straight forward with ample of place to sit down and relax. The decoration was inviting and we felt like we were in a little Chinese noodle shop back in Asia.

Where is Mr Su’s Located?

Lunch done so we headed to Arndale Manchester to do some window shopping before heading out to Manchester Market to enjoy a lovely glass of mulled wine/cider. Heading to Manchester Market has become a yearly affair for us and we love the festivities of heading out to the marketing, tasting the different food and drinks and people watching too.

One of the reasons we decided to have a girls night out was to celebrate Joyce and Marilyn’s birthday so we started the evening with a visit to Salut Wines for some aperitive before heading for dinner at Crabbish for some seafood galore. We rented an Air B&B very close to town so did not need to take a car or tram anywhere, we just walked which was convenient. We stopped to look at the Christmas lights as we walked back to our apartment which was lovely and even managed a selfie with Father Christmas.

Manchester is the third biggest city in England and it has such vibrant city both in the day and night.  Walking around the city, you will notice the Manchester Bee sculptures around the city or drawings of it on shop windows. This design was adopted by Manchester in the 19th Century as the Manchester Bee symbolizes the industrious nature of the city and its people.

Manchester, the birthplace of nuclear physics also has stunning landscapes and is rich for its architecture and culture. I do love walking around the city and admiring its buildings as well as its canals whenever I get the chance to pop over. This time around I enjoyed looking at the graffiti murals on the walls and managed to photograph some of it.

The next day we woke up and headed to Gooey Bakery & Cafe to enjoy freshly baked bread and pastries for breakfast before stopping off at Manchester Market again and then heading to Chinatown for our lunch before we said our goodbyes.  What a fabulous weekend it was…filled with plenty to see and do. Can’t wait to see where our next adventure takes us to.
