Giveaway & Book Review : Eat Well to Age Well by Beverley Jarvis

As we keep up with our January theme of promoting eco-friendly products, sustainable lifestyle and healthy living. We are sharing a review of Eat Well to Age Well by experienced cookery teacher and writer Beverley Jarvis.

The author has put together this book of 75+ delicious recipes to inspire her super-ager peers to eat well, with all the nutrients that are increasingly needed as we get older and to cook food from scratch quickly and easily so that meals are enjoyable but never a chore.

Her guiding principles, developed through her ongoing work with the organisation U3A (university of the third age), are: (mostly) no more than 35 minutes to prepare and cook; use short-cuts provided these don’t compromise nutritional quality; physical activity is good but use tips to make cooking less physically demanding; use fresh, health-enhancing ingredients. With most recipes being for two people this is the perfect book for empty-nesters and those who have recently retired.

Published by Hammersmith Books, the book is completed with some dinner party recipes which take longer to prepare and cook, but are well worth the wait.

Keep on reading to find out how you can win a copy of this book worth £24.99.

What did I think of the book?

The fact is that we are all going to age someday and the million-dollar question is if we are going to age well? I am sure you would have heard the term, you are what you eat and this book is basically emphasizing that fact.

The book is segregated according to parts, Part 1 talks about How to Age Well, Part 2 shares various Recipes such as Starters, Light Meals, Microwave Meals, Main Meals and Easy Desserts. Finally, Part 3 shares some delicious Dinner Party Recipes.

I enjoyed reading and trying out some of the recipes in the book and found that many of the dishes were easy to prepare and was very flavourful.  My favourite recipes have to be the Curried Lamb Soup with Brocolli and Dark Chocolate and Cherry cupcakes.   The book has emphasized that healthy meals are easy to prepare even when you are cooking for one or when you have limited time.  The author also encourages the readers to purchase ready-made pastes as well as pre-chopped ingredients especially if they have a medical condition such as arthritis.

The book also encourages its readers to cook from scratch and stop buying frozen ready-made meals.  There are lots of different dishes in the book which showcases both Western and Asian flavours hence you have a wider option of dishes to choose from.  I can definitely see myself cooking these recipes over and over again for my family now and even when I get older.
