Zerowater 12-Cup Water Filter Jug
[Ad-gifted] The Zerowater 12 cup water filter jug is from Zerowater, and aims to deliver the purest tasting water within minutes. Metals, salts, pesticides and organic compounds are present in our water to some extent, but Zerowater states that their patented 5 stage filter reduces 99.6% of all total dissolved solids (TDS) from your drinking water.
The Zerowater 12 cup water filter jug is a large, plastic water filter jug, holding 2.8 litres of water. One filter is provided and how long it lasts depends upon the levels of total dissolved solids (TDS) in your water initially. The filter is effective for between 30 litres (where TDS levels are exceptionally high) and 150 litres (where TDS levels are moderate) of water – between 10 and 50 jugs.

What did I think of the Zerowater water filter jug?
The Zerowater 12 cup water filter jug arrived in sturdy, cardboard packaging, which can obviously be easily recycled. The packaging contained the jug, a filter enclosed in a sealed bag, a small water testing meter and brief set-up instructions. All other information about the product can be found at the Zerowater website. This includes a description of how the patented 5 stage filtration process works and information on the acceptable levels of TDS in drinking water. Although most of the water purity data is based on U.S. standards, there are selected details on U.K. water quality available at the website.
The set-up instructions were very clear and the filter jug was easy to prepare for first use. The top third of the jug is a water reservoir. Simply lift this from the jug; remove the water filter from its bag and screw it tightly into the reservoir from underneath; replace the reservoir into the top of the jug and the filter jug is ready to use. To obtain filtered water, fill the reservoir at the top of the jug. The water travels through the filter and passes into the main body of the jug via a small hole at the base of the filter. You may wish to begin with a small amount of water, to check that none is escaping into the jug from around the neck of the filter. If this is happening, simply remove the reservoir from the top of the jug again and screw the filter more tightly in place.
Once the reservoir at the top of the jug is filled and water is passing correctly through the filter, it will take approximately 4 minutes for the water to be filtered. This process must be repeated three times to completely fill the jug.

Water can be poured from the jug whilst filtering is in process, as the spout is separated from the filter by a divided lid. The 12 cup jug also features a push button ‘spigot’ at the bottom of the handle, which allows water to be dispensed from the base of the jug without having to lift the unit. This is very useful as the jug can be heavy to lift and pour when completely full. However, the pouring flow remains steady, even when the jug is completely full, and there are no leaks or drips from the spout whilst pouring water or immediately after use. The only other issue I have with the product is that the 12 cup size is too large to be stored easily in any section of my fridge. However, this could be easily addressed by buying a smaller jug from the wide range of sizes available at the website.
I have always imagined that the quality of drinking water at my home is good, as it has a pleasant taste. I was able to test this with the TDS meter provided with the filter jug. I poured a glass of tap water, removed the cap from the meter, submerged the meter in the water and switched it on. It measured a level of 140 TDS parts per million in the water, which is considered within the ‘Typical’ 51-200 range in the U.K.

After a single filter, repeating the same test showed a 000 TDS reading for the water. This appears to achieve the same standard as purified bottled water. Neither my partner nor I particularly noticed any change in the taste of the water. However, we did notice that the slight smell of chlorine that we sometimes experience had disappeared. We have been using the filter jug for several weeks and this has continued to be the case.
If you have any concerns about the quality of your home drinking water, I would definitely suggest that you research and try a Zerowater filter jug. The 12 cup version will be useful for larger households and a smaller model more suitable for smaller households or those who prefer to cool their water in the fridge before drinking.

Where do I purchase the Zerowater 12 cup filter jug and how much does it cost?
