Northern Chamber Orchestra returns to Tatton Park for two magical Christmas concerts this December, joined by the Choir of St Nicholas Catholic High School, Northwich.
The Northern Chamber Orchestra, who are the oldest professional chamber orchestra in the North West, will perform a concert filled with festive music including Sleigh Ride and the Overture from Hansel and Gretel, film music such as the themes from Harry Potter and E.T., and audience carols for all to sing. The orchestra will be joined by the Choir of St Nicholas Catholic High School, Northwich, conducted by the School’s Director of Music, Helen McKenna, for a collection of beautiful carols and choral works. Actor, writer and director Kate Millward (whose talents include creating and performing her own material, specialising in bespoke, festive narratives) will present the concert and bring a touch of literary drama with a few specially-selected readings and poems.

About Northern Chamber Orchestra
The Northern Chamber Orchestra (NCO) has come a long way since it was set up in 1967. It now presents a successful, annual series of eight concerts at the Heritage Centre in Macclesfield, which attracts top-flight soloists. The 2019/20 season features: violinists Chloe Hanslip and Anthony Marwood; pianist Martin James Bartlett; percussionist Colin Currie; and our President, cellist, Raphael Wallfisch. The NCO is ‘Orchestra in Association‘ at The Stoller Hall, Manchester’s newest space for music and performance. Our players also perform annually at Buxton Festival, playing for its main opera productions, and the NCO regularly gives orchestral concerts at St John’s Church in Buxton. Buxton Festival’s ex-Artistic Director and Honorary Patron of the NCO, Stephen Barlow, commented: “…the NCO never ceases to amaze me with its ability to soak up pressure (three operas, always new to them, in varying styles), and deliver outstanding playing with care and love, and who are now…an indispensable part of the Festival.” The Orchestra also performs across the North of England and is regularly included in Orchestras Live programmes across rural areas, including the Lake District. The members of the orchestra (approximately twenty in total) are distinguished chamber musicians who regularly appear as soloists.
