We were recently invited to head to Wychwood Park Hotel and Golf Club which is located in Crewe, East Cheshire to enjoy an overnight stay and sample the food served in their restaurant. Set in 200 acres of stunning Cheshire countryside, Wychwood Park features a PGA European Tour-standard 18-hole golf course, 110 bedrooms and 27 function suites and multi-purpose meeting rooms, as well as a restaurant, bar and clubhouse. We love the beautiful town of Crewe and were in need of a weekend holiday getaway break and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Operated by Legacy Hotels and Resorts, Wychwood has recently unveiled its brand new look after undergoing a £3 million refurbishment project and we could not wait to find out more about. Keep on reading to find out more about the hotel and what it has to offer.

I remember visiting Wychwood Park Hotel almost 3 years ago for a lunch meeting, so I was surprised that I could not recognise it when I arrived at the hotel. The hotel looks trendy, modern and stylish! Located just 20 minutes away from Crewe Lyceum Theatre as well as the Crewe Retail Park and Wheelock Farm, the hotel is strategically located for those with families wanting to discover Crewe more. It is also a great opportunity for mums and children to visit the hotel and enjoy some sightseeing while the dad attends a conference or golf tournament (or vice versa for dads that stay home while mum works/golfs).

Among the renovations, which kicked off earlier this year, was a full refurbishment of the hotel’s 110 bedrooms, with brightly-coloured interiors replacing the former décor and a new lock system being introduced to increase efficiency. The rooms were clean, fresh and did not feel dated at all. We loved the fact that the hotel had free wifi connections and the reception was great no matter which part of the hotel we were at. There are lots of plug sockets to charge our gadgets (yes we travel with lots of gadgets), cookies and coffee/tea making facilities, ironing board, hairdryer, robe, slippers, toiletry items, luggage rack and most importantly a safe to store our valuables.

We also loved the fact that the rooms were warm and we could control the room temperature and adjust it to our liking.

As a family, we often travel with both our two kids, but still would like a bit of privacy, so we loved the fact that Wychwood Park Hotel offered us a Deluxe Double Room with a connecting sliding door to the Deluxe Twin Room which meant that both our rooms were connected. This meant that we could keep an eye on our kids but still had some privacy at the same time, another plus point is that both the rooms came with their own TV hence we adults could watch the news while the kids watch their favourite kid’s programme. There was also ample space in each room and both the single beds in our kid’s rooms could also be pushed together so there was no space between them to avoid them falling off.

The refurbishment has also seen that the bar and The Fairways Restaurant areas were given a complete overhaul, while the hotel’s atrium and public areas were rejuvenated with new furnishings and layouts.

Our package was dinner inclusive which meant that we could order a selection of items ie starters/mains/desserts totalling £32. My husband picked the soup of the day which was Leek and Potato Soup (£5) and the Slow Braised Shoulder of Lamb which was served with dauphinoise potatoes, tender stem broccoli and carrot puree (£16) as mains while I choose the Confit Duck Leg Spring Rolls (£8) and Pheasant Supreme served with rosemary-infused mashed potatoes, rainbow carrots and a winter berry jus (£18) as well as the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. Our kids ordered sausage, mash and peas as well as pizza and chips with a chocolate tart (which was split into two and beautifully presented) for their dessert. There was no kid’s menu available but the staff were accommodating with our request and offered to either create a smaller portion of the adult menu or perpare pizzas, chips and sausages or burgers. Dinner menu at the hotel starts at 7pm, this would usually have been quite late for us, but since we were out shopping at Crewe Festival Park, the timing was just right as we arrived back to the hotel late.

We had a fantastic night’s sleep and when we woke up we headed back to the restaurant for breakfast. There was a lovely selection of fruits, cold meats, toast, hot drinks, juices, cereal, fruits and pastries. Again our package was inclusive of breakfast, if you are paying it separately, it would cost £15.95 person. There was only one staff at the door and unfortunately, we were not told that we could order hot meals such as boiled eggs, poached eggs or a full English breakfast until we read the menu card halfway through our meal (as all hot food is cooked in the kitchen). I would have liked a full English breakfast but unfortunately did not have one as ended up getting my plate filled with the toast and pastries.

Here’s a short youtube video of our experience:
Golfers would be happy to know that Wychwood Park features a PGA European Tour-standard 18-hole golf course, a perfect opportunity for you to head there for a weekend break and enjoy a game of golf at the same time.

How much does it cost to stay a night at Wychwood Park Hotel?
The Superior Double and Twin Room cost £219 per night. This is perfect for a family of 4 as the adults can stay in the superior double while the children can stay in connecting twin room.

What did we think of the experience?
Wychwood Park Hotel is a fabulous place to head to, we enjoyed our stay there and would definitely recommend spending the night there if you are looking for a place to stay in Crewe. Our family room was large, comfy, clean, warm and modern with great facilities and free wifi connection. The hotel and restaurant staff were very accommodating and helpful although we did not see many around as it was not a very busy weekend. We do hope that in future The Fairways Restaurant offer a children’s menu so it would be easy to order our kid’s food, nevertheless, the staff was very flexible and offered to make our kids anything they liked. Food portion was great there and the meal was lovely, we also loved the fact that the restaurant served seasonal food and a great wine selection to go with our meal. There is a bar available in the hotel which opens later in the evening and a 24-hour fitness suite available for hotel guests. There was no other facilities available so if you have young kids with you, it is best to head out to indoor parks such as Funsters, outdoor play area such as Wheelock Farm or the Crewe Lyceum Theatre to keep kids entertained. We had a lovely stay at Wychwood Park Hotel and it was a much needed weekend getaway for our family before the hectic Christmas period starts.

This looks like a lovely hotel to visit, and with a fantastic golf course to match. I’ve also never been to Crewe before, so now I know of a good place to stay should I ever visit!
There are some things to do in Crewe so it is worth checking out the town
I love having the separate room for the kids – where they’re close enough to keep an eye on, but you still can have your own privacy.
Agree, that is exactly what we thought when we saw their family room
What a fun family travel experience. Definitely adding this to our list!
