We are beginning to approach the end of January and most of us are well into our new year’s resolution to keep fit. I am not a keep-fit fanatic, but I really do try to stay healthy and go running around twice a week. When I started I wanted to make sure I was wearing clothing to that was truly “fit” for purpose! So leggings and T-shirts began to take up a little extra space in my wardrobe. So if you are looking for some new clothing for your new fitness venture, but want something that’s a little out of the box, this review of ZenMaxChar or ZMC for short will be right up your street!
ZenMaxChar is the brainchild of Charmaine, an ex Graphic Communications Student and now the new owner of this Kooky fitness clothing business. Within her studies, she learnt how to create surface pattern designs that were perfectly suited to being put onto clothing. Her designs have taken inspiration from artists like Andy Warhol, Gary Taxal (a Canadien Artist), and Bauhaus. These artists work focus on design and typography within their work and you can definitely see in the ZMC designs have been influenced by these.
ZenMaxChar asked us to select two items from their collection to review. They had a variety of slightly cropped sports t.shirts, sports leggings and swimsuits; along with some bags and jumpers. In total ZMC have around four surface designs that are put onto all those different products. Some of the designs include a denim print that has neon lines flashed over the top, newspaper design and a neon print design among some.

What I thought about the products?
When choosing I wasn’t sure whether to opt for a matching set or two different designs. In the end I decided that I am not into wearing stuff that matches too much so I opted for the Newspaper print cropped top, and the denim/neon leggings. As I was using them for running I wanted to make sure they fitted correctly so got in touch with Charmaine to check the sizing. She advised me to use her sizing guide and measure myself accordingly – which I did and according to her guide. I was an S (small) on the bottom and M (medium) on top.
The order was made and the clothes arrived swiftly and packed in regular plastic wrap packaging. Pulling the leggings out from the bag I could feel the quality of the product. ZMC are made on-demand when you send through your order, showing you how conscious they are about the sustainability of the brand. The newspaper print t.shirt was also nice, but from a slightly thinner and less scratchy fabric than the leggings, but still decent quality.
When I got around to going on my run, it was pretty cold and icy, so I layered up and put on a ling sleeved stretchy top, underneath the crop top. My only issue with the crop top was the fit, in accordance with ZMC’s sizing guide I went for an M which was actually quite big on me. But on days when I do yoga, I will be happy for this extra room. However, if I order again I will go for an S. As for the leggings I LOVE them. They really were the absolute perfect fit and so lovely and soft. They were really comfy to run in and didn’t slide down, as they were really snug, which is what you want when running!
I would definitely consider ordering from ZenMaxChar again as finding unusual designs on running leggings can be hard. As generally they are made in just one colour, and when its one colour it is so much easier to spot sweat patches, which really isn’t attractive. ZenMaxChar have a good selection to choose from and they are, in their words “Unique prints! Same design, different products!”

About the Brand
The Brand was started by Charmaine, who is from London. She likes to create a limited number of service pattern designs, put apply them to a multitude of products. She has the items are manufactured on demand, which prevents the neccessity to have a place to stack large quantities of goods and it also means that she can change her designs without knowing that old stock will be left over, therefore, making her brand a sustainable sports brand.
Charmaine is from a close family and wanted to incorporate this into her business. She did this by choosing her Brand name to be directly linked to her and her parents. Taking the first three/four letters of their names, her Brand name was born, as ZenMaxChar. Charmaine’s company is also known as ZMC on other platforms, which again opens up her Brand to develop further as her business grows.
If you love a bit of sport where but would also like to support small businesses that make small quantities of goods with a move away from fast fashion. ZenMaxChar is a great company to start with. The quality is there and they are properly sized which can be unusual for online stores. So get yourself to her Etsy shop by following our link above and check out what there is on offer.
