We love heading out to Farmers Markets and Rode Hall and Gardens in Scholar Green, Cheshire is one of our favourite places to visit as we love their garden area and lovely cafe which serves homemade food and warm scones.  Taking place on every first Saturday of the month on the grounds of Rode Hall and Gardens is their Farmers’ Market.   There are three main areas to the market, two indoor areas…the first is the food barn selling fresh meat and sausages,  cooked pies, cheese, juices, freshly baked bread and cakes while the second is the craft barn selling decorative items such as paintings, ceramics and wall art. The third area is the outdoor market where you can find things such as  garden items, plants for sale, fresh fish, coffee stall, ice-cream, and bacon baps. Its even more fabulous if the weather if great, so you can sit down and listen to some lovely music being played by local musicians. Depending on the month you visit, the market sometimes follows a theme ie Spring, Summer, Christmas hence all the items being sold ie hampers, food items and gifts may follow this theme.  These photos were taken in July and the next one will be taking place next Saturday (4 August).  So don’t miss it!

Lots of pies and cakes for sale there, which is great if you have not had your breakfast or decide to have your brunch there.

The market starts off early at nine in the morning with over 70 stalls selling local produce, hand made gift items, freshly made breads, home made pies and cakes, plants and butcher’s selling local sausages and meat.  If you love supporting local business, then this is a great farmer’s market to head to as you get to buy a lot of quality and local items in one location. Some of the vendors include Cuttleford Farm Shop, Rushey Hey Farm, London Road Bakehouse. For the full list of vendors visit here.

Our little girl was super happy as she came home with a dolphin necklace and some freshly picked local cherries which are her current favourite fruit.

Hope you enjoyed watching the short video of Rode Hall Farmer’s Market in Scholar Green.

All the ingredients are fresh and the vendors are so helpful and chatty even sharing recipes and how you can cook the items you purchase from them, its just a lovely feel to it  and you know you are supporting a local business and not a large commercialised supermarket.  The best part is most of the vendors are happy to give out samples for you to taste and try them hence we ended up purchasing some sausages, bread, spice mix, fruits and cheese all because we tasted the product.

Fabulous looking tarts and cakes were sold there..

Here’s the outdoor market area, I was told that there was usually a lot more shop, perhaps some were not there as it was the start to the lovely summer holidays. Most of the vendors trade using cash, hence remember to bring lots of small change with you, some larger stalls selling wall arts may have credit card facilities, so be prepared.

If you have pets, then you would also love to know that one of the stalls does sell scones specially made for dogs as well.

Plants for sale

There was even a tent outside for kids to do some art and craft activities. This week it was rock painting, it was free to join in and all the materials are provided for, we just gave a donation of £1 as all monies collected will go towards the Cheshire Arts for Health Charity.

Our kids had a fab time painting rocks as we get to hide them when we head out for walks.

When is the next Rode Hall Farmers’ Market ?

The market takes place every 1st Saturday of the month (except for January) from 9am until 1.30pm. There are over 70 stalls selling all sorts of local, organic produce as well as crafts. What a fantastic market! I’ve checked and it’s only an hour or so away from me, so I might try and make one of the events later in the year

I love a good Farmers Market, living in London they can be quite hard to find. We did spend a week in Devon last week though and made the most of going to one, picking up fresh local produce to eat while we were there x

How wonderful Charli that you got to experience one in Devon, I can imagine that there are not that many in London
