The Shires
Update: With Covid-19 spreading rapidly worldwide and the UK government’s request of not gathering in a crowd to contain it, The Shire’s competition is currently on hold/cancelled. We are hoping that the ban will be lifted in time for their concert but can’t be certain. We do apologise to all those who have joined the competition and will keep you updated on future progress.
We are super excited to announce that the UK’s best-selling country act The Shires have marked the release of their brand new single New Year with a new 2020 tour and it’s coming to the Victoria Hall in Stoke-on-Trent this April! The tour will feature some of the music from their eagerly awaited forthcoming album Good Years. We at Yeah Lifestyle have teamed up with our friends at Victoria Hall and The Shires to give one lucky reader/follower a pair of tickets worth £50 to watch them live. So if you are a huge fan like us, then hurry up and scroll down to find out how you can enter and win this amazing prize!
The title of the group’s newest album couldn’t ring truer for country duo, Ben and Crissie, as the release follows two gold-certified albums and three top ten singles, firmly cementing their status as two of country music’s most prominent voices. As with all their albums, Good Years was recorded in Nashville, the home of Country Music. It’s a poignant project for them both, now having made huge waves both on home soil and across the pond as the first UK artists to win Best International Act at the prestigious CMAs.

About The Shires
The Shires formed after Ben (from Hertfordshire) appealed on Facebook for a female country singer to work with him. Crissie (from Bedfordshire), a friend of a friend, replied, came round the very next day and they discovered instant chemistry. “We can build our own Nashville underneath these grey skies,” they sing on ‘Nashville Grey Skies’, the infectious radio hit that introduced them last summer and hoisted a flag for home-grown country music. Both are inspired by the old-school workmanship of country music’s professional songwriters – people they would later work with on their first trip to Nashville last summer. Learning at first hand the storytelling style of classic country songs, and how to craft a catchy chorus, the duo then injected elements that could only have come from our side of the pond. Powered by Crissie’s powerful but subtle and supple vocals and Ben’s perfectly complementary tones and acoustic guitar, The Shires have literally found a piece of country to call their own. They love American music, but they’re proudly British and intensely keen to add some real indigenous flavour to the pot.
About Victoria Hall
The Victoria Hall was built in 1888 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. Built-in local red brick and terracotta, the classical Grade II Listed venue originally held 2800 people, and has, over the years, been the scene of numerous concerts, wrestling contests, boxing matches and many rock gigs. The Victoria Hall was revamped in the mid-nineties, opening its doors once more in 1998 and has since then been at the heart of the Cultural Quarter, alongside its sister venue The Regent Theatre. The Victoria Hall has now established itself as one of the most popular venues on the touring circuit and has played host to an impressive array of famous faces, including Paul Weller, Morrissey, Jimmy Carr, Russell Brand, John Bishop and Bloc Party. It consistently attracts the biggest names in music and comedy to Stoke-on-Trent, as well as an array of children’s shows, music tributes and dance.

I’m ashamed to admit that I have never heard of this band but I do love the genre. They have such an ability to tell a story through song.
They are a UK band and huge in America, their record was produced in Nashville. Surprisingly they are bigger outside of the Uk but once you listen to them, you cant help but love their music
Have to admit that I am beginning to enjoy country music more now as I age, but then again I’ve moved from Radio 1 to Radio 2. My tastes have certainly changed! If I was close, this would be awesome! Sim x
Their music is superb has its modern yet with a country twist and their tunes get played so often on Radio 2 so I am sure you are a fan already!
