Sylvanian Families Sea Otter

[Ad-gifted] As a mum there is something very special about seeing your child playing with a toy that you also enjoyed playing with as a child. Sylvanian Families have been a firm favourite with kids since the 1980s and I was obsessed with collecting the cute animal families when I was little.

I bought Jemma a few of the families for Christmas and she loved them immediately! The Sea Otter Family and Sea Otter Sisters are the latest addition to my five-year-old’s ever growing animal families.

The Sea Otter Family includes mum Myra, dad Colin, and two adorable babies, Cary and Courney. The set also includes a shell pram to cradle the two baby otters and a little shell bag which opens to reveal a tiny pearl.

Sold separately, the Sea Otter Sisters – Splashy Snorkel Set helps to complete the family with big sister Marina and baby sister Manon. The box includes some fab accessories – a snorkel, goggles, baby boat, bucket, fishing net, conch, crab, scallop, and fish.

Sylvanian Families is suitable for children 3 years or older.

What we thought of the Sylvanian Families Sea Otter Family

The sea otters are incredibly cute with round faces, little ears and sweet diamond shaped noses. Jemma adored them, especially the two tiny babies! I was particularly impressed with the accessories that came with the two sets, especially those in the Splashy Snorkel Set. Jemma loved playing with the fishing net catching the crab, fish and shells.

You can of course just play with the sea otters and accessories as they are, but we also had fun setting up a little beach for the otters to play on using some sand and blue tissue paper. Jemma loved hiding the shells and sea creatures in the sand and sea then helping the otter children to discover them with the fishing net. She also liked that she could pop the little sister into her boat and float her around the water.

One of the joys of Sylvanian Families has always been the ability to change them in and out of their little outfits. Jemma loved getting the babies out of their cute outfits so they could play in the sand. The big sister is always ready to swim and wears a cute swimsuit under her skirt.

Jemma has a wonderful imagination and toys like this are great for nurturing it. She made up little stories while she played with the sea otters and sat for ages playing with them.

The animals and little accessories are also great for improving fine motor skills. Although Jemma did need a little help getting the googles and snorkel onto the sea otter sisters, I’m sure this will get easier with practice.

Jemma loves holidays and day trips to the beach, so she really embraced all of the fun she could have with the sea otter family, I’m sure she has many more seaside stories to tell!
