Natalie Casey (2:22 – A Ghost Story, UK Tour; Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, BBC Three) and comedian, actor and writer Russell Kane are set to lead a thrilling new reimagining of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet this September as the New Vic Theatre joins forces with acclaimed theatre company Not Too Tame for the very first time.
Part of the New Vic Theatre’s landmark 40th anniversary programme, this fresh, high-energy production sees Casey take on the role of Juliet alongside Kane‘s Romeo in a radical retelling of the timeless tragedy. Commissioned and first produced by the New Vic Theatre in association with Not Too Tame, the production has been adapted by Jimmy Fairhurst, Andrew Butler and Louise Haggerty, with Fairhurst also directing.
Forget teenage romance… this is Romeo and Juliet with a powerful new perspective. When Juliet and Romeo lock eyes across a crowded dance floor, their connection is instant, but finding love later in life comes with its own heartbreaks and challenges. Against a backdrop of fractured families, betrayal and communities on the brink of violence, this exhilarating new production asks whether love can survive when the stakes have never been higher.
