We were recently invited to Warrington to visit The Garden Spa located at Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub to review their Couple’s Spa Package. The spa is located on the ground floor of the hub and it was easy to get to the location with lots of parking spaces. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the friendly staff and got seated, next we were asked to fill in a form and had a brief consultation with one of the staff. We had a brief moment to admire the beautiful and tranquil nature-themed room.

Our session started when we were given a tour by Carol of the Garden Spa. She showed us the thermal room, the therapy room, the relaxation room, the outdoor patio area, the water station and our locker room. We were given a pair of slippers, robes as well as towels. We got changed into our swimming costumes and robes and soon headed and got our glass of water.

We headed to the thermal room for our two-hour thermal spa experience. If you think two hours is long..well think again. The thermal room consisted of a thermal pool, thermal heated loungers, ice fountain, waterfall shower, 2 sauna rooms and 2 steam rooms. We totally enjoyed our session at the pool, the water was warmer than usual but soon as you get in, you don’t want to leave. The thermal bathing promotes relaxation, improves breathing and cleanses the body. The two hours went really quickly with us trying each of the rooms, the salt inhalation room was, aromatherapy steam room, infrared sauna and sauna room. The best part about the thermal suite was when we had to place the ice on our body and then head into the sauna room, the hot and cold made our skin tingle. We were recommended to use the rooms for a maximum of 15 minutes and were advised to drink a lot of water.

We were lucky as we had the whole room to ourself on the day we were there, but the rooms easily fit 8 to 15 people and would be the perfect activity to do for a private hen party. We were not allowed to bring in our own drinks but there was water provided and sorbet as well as raspberry ice-cream halfway through the treatment which tasted amazing, as we just came out of the hot steam rooms. Carol came out to check on us throughout the two-hour session but at the same time, left us so we had our privacy. The Aspen Sauna (traditional dry heat bathing) had a temperature of 80-85C while the Infrared Sauna (warm room with infrared therapy panels) had a temperature of 50-60C. The Salt Room (high humidity with therapeutic salt vapour) had a temperature of 40-42C while the Aromatherapy Steam (fragrant high humidity room) had a temperature of 45-48C.
Soon as we finished with the thermal treatment, we had a quick shower and then took a 15-minute break to have our lunch on the patio. The Garden Spa does not serve lunch or dinner but you are welcomed to bring a packed lunch to have at their vicinity. They were gracious to provide us with a hot drink while we had our lunch.

Next, we were ready to experience the second half of the spa treatments. After a quick consultation with our therapist at their relaxing room, we proceeded to our treatment room for the first part, which was a welcome milk bath foot soak ritual. Next, we experienced the gentle body brushing exfoliation and the fig and vanilla back cleanse treatment which was very relaxing! Once this was done, we turned over for our aroma back massage followed by the deluxe detox back treatment as well as the foot and ankle pressure point massage. To be honest with you. we were both so relaxed and the whole experience was very calming. Lastly, we were treated to a bespoke facial followed by hair and scalp raw coconut oil massage treatment. This left the hair and skin oily a little but we were told not to wash it for a few hours as it needed to seep into our scalp and skin.

What did we think about the treatment?
Honestly? We both would do it again in a blink of an eye! The whole experience was very professional and it was such a calming and relaxing experience for us. From the moment we stepped into The Garden Spa, the staff were very helpful plus the ambience was very inviting. The decor, scent and music added to our whole experience and the facilities such as the toilets and locker rooms were clean and well maintained. It was lovely to share the spa experience with a friend, to chat and just relax especially since both of us we in need of some back massage. Everything was very organised as we had enough alone time but at the same time, staff popped by to check on us to ensure we had enough water and to find out how we were doing. The therapy staff were well trained and made our therapy very enjoyable and gave us lots of advice such as to drink plenty of water and which areas to moisturise more. We both had such a lovely time and we can’t wait to go back again to experience the spa treatment as it was pure luxury and such a treat!
FAQ / Things to note:
- Pre-booking is recommended to avoid disappointment
- There are quiet zones in the area, so we were told not to make noise when we were in those areas
- For those on a Wellbeing Spa Day Package, a fluffy towel, luxury robe and footwear is provided. For Thermal Spa Experiences, just a fluffy towel is provided. Robe and footwear can also be hired separately for £5
- It is recommended that you bring 2 sets of swimwear for the spa session so that you are comfortable and warm during your thermal and massage treatments.
- Lockers for guests can be found in the changing rooms
- Swimwear is to be worn in the Thermal Area and dry swimwear or suitable underwear is to be worn during all treatments.
- Mobile phones are not permitted within the Spa, this is to ensure your relaxation and that of other spa users is not disturbed.
- No alcohol is allowed into the spa.
- The Thermal Spa area is for those 16 years and over
- Appropriate footwear to be worn in the wet spa; flip-flops can be purchased at reception. No outdoor shoes to be worn.
- It is recommended to shower before your treatment if you have come into contact with chlorinated water (the Spa pool for example) – You don’t want the chemicals from such massaged into your skin.
How much did the session cost?
The couple’s catch up spa took around 3.5 hours, and cost £190 for a couple. Very reasonable especially since we got both the thermal pool experience as well as the spa treatments for two. We also had the whole place to ourselves as there was no one else there when we were there.

So pleased to know this spa is open on a Sunday 👍😍
Yes they are but closed on the Monday
The ambient of the spa looks great, spacious, clean and calm. The price is also very reasonable as the total duration is very long. Love how there is a small thermal pool to chill.
The thermal pool was my favourite bit, was hot when I got in, but soon my body got acclimatised to the temperature and I loved it
