The Pip Box Cruelty-Free Beauty Box

[Ad-gifted] If you’re anything like us, you probably use the same beauty products over and over again. So when we were offered the chance to review The Pip Box, this was the perfect opportunity to be a little more adventurous.

We were sent the April edit of the cruelty-free, monthly subscription box, containing five ever-so pretty treats – each one a surprise! And because it’s spring, the team at The Pip Box had given the edit a ‘blooming’ theme, with a focus on floral scents, floral packaging and botanical ingredients. Here’s what we thought…

Elate Cosmetics. Vibrant Lipstick in Bloom.

This was the item I was most excited about because I was in need of a new lippy. Reading the description I learned that Elate lipsticks are blended with shea and mango butter, so the lippy glided on smoothly and left my lips feeling moisturised.

I struggle to find shades that suit me and I’m not convinced this one does. However, it’s a very pretty pink, perfect for spring, and because it’s subtle, is ideal for daytime. Retailing at £12.95, it has a nice scent – and I love the packaging.

The Vintage Cosmetic Company. Slanted Tweezers in Floral.

This is probably the prettiest of the lot; I adore the gorgeous, vintage floral packaging. But these tweezers are much more than just pretty – they do a pretty good job, too.

Made from hardwearing stainless steel and with a slanted design, I found them easy to use and provided much more effective plucking than the ones I’d been using previously. Retailing at £8, they’re ideal for shaping brows and are a very welcome addition to my make-up bag.

EcoBlitz. Shampoo Bar

We’re all becoming more aware of the need to use less plastic, including when it comes to our beauty products, so I was keen to try a shampoo bar. This fresh-smelling, plastic-free bar is made with lemon, eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils, as well as castor oil, and retails at £4.50. But disappointingly, I wasn’t very happy with the results.

I struggled to get a lather and didn’t feel my hair was having a good clean. My hair was left lank and greasy. I tried the bar for a few days and discovered on the internet that it can take time for your hair to get used to a shampoo bar. I haven’t given up on the idea, though, and will try other brands in the future.

BAO Skincare. Hydrating Rose Mist

This can be used as a toner and facial mist. Retailing at £9.99, it aims to hydrate and even out skin tone, as well as help to boost cell regeneration and plump the skin. The mist felt refreshing and I imagine it would be perfect on hot days.

Manna Kadar. Blossom Floral Compact.

Embossed with an attractive, multi-coloured floral design, this multi-functional pressed blush and highlighter trio aims to give healthy, glowing skin. Retailing at £16.50, you can use the three shades separately or blend them together for a balance of colour and highlight.

Using them separately seemed a bit tricky to a very amateur make-up applier, so I blended all three together. I was impressed with the glow.

Our verdict of The Pip Box

It felt like Christmas all over again when my Pip Box arrived in the post. I opened it excitedly as I had no idea which products would be inside. I also loved that it gave me a chance to try beauty products I might not normally come across. I was pleased with the variety of the items and that it allowed me to try a shampoo bar for the first time. The drawback, however, with not knowing what you’ll be receiving is that you could receive products you don’t want or need. But it’s good value for money, considering what you get. Another big plus is that it’s cruelty-free!

There are different payment plans to choose from. The pay-as-you-go option (the most popular) is £20 per month. Alternatively, you can treat yourself to a bundle plan, such as the three-month prepay, which is £55. Delivery is free in the UK.
