[Ad-gifted] In our next book review, we feature Beneath The Surface of Light by Maja Mika. The book is about Whalina who feels disconnected, despite having a wonderful life in London, she craves something more just out of reach and when she and her boyfriend are in a deadly car accident, she drowns… and reappears as a spirit hovering over the crash site.
Pulled into an alternative realm of absolute darkness, Whalina is surprised when she’s saved by an angel of light and reawakens back in her reality with an urgent message to return home. Struggling to understand her mysterious quest, the young seeker’s awakening resolve sends her on a trek to the Amazon in search of greater wisdom and understanding.
Can Whalina find meaning in a second chance and fulfill her destiny?
Independently published, Beneath The Surface Of Light is an eye-opening work of visionary fiction. If you like contemplating the bigger picture, exploring spiritual concepts, and plenty of action, then you’ll love Maja Mika’s thought-provoking tale.

What I thought of the book
If you are looking for an interesting read for an older teen or young adult, then Beneath The Surface Of Light by Maja Mika is an eye-opening work of visionary fiction. This book makes a lovely gift for readers who like contemplating the bigger picture, exploring spiritual concepts, and want to indulge in a thought-provoking tale.
The book is about Whalina who feels disconnected. Despite having a wonderful life in London, she craves something more just out of reach. And when she and her boyfriend are in a deadly car accident, she drowns… and reappears as a spirit hovering over the crash site. She soon looks for a purpose in life and goes out in search for the greater wisdom and understanding. The book is suitable for those 17-years-old and above, but my 13-year-old daughter who is an avid reader enjoyed reading the book.

What my 13-year old daughter thought of the book?
The book Beneath the Surface of Light is a very calming book as it talks about the spiritual side of life but portrayed in a fictional story. This book also shares that we each have a light inside of us and that love will always shine brighter than hate will.
The book follows Whalina and how she feels unsatisfied with her life. Tragedy strikes and she soon finds that she and her boyfriend are in a car accident. She drowns but is then saved by an angel of light and reawakens as a spirit back on earth.
Whalina encounters different people through our her ‘normal world’ and in the spiritual world that help her in the journey. Some of them are her boyfriend, Neil, her sister, Sarah and her Shaman, Wind. Without them she could not have gone as far as she did.
I also love how in the book, Whalina perseveres through all the tough challenges life throws at her and in the end how it is worth it because she gets the outcome she wants despite the surprising ending. I found her character very inspiring and it has motivated me to be a better person. This is definitely an exciting book and I would recommend it for people to read it but will Whalina finally find her purpose and fulfil it before it is too late?

How much is the book and where can you buy it?
The paperback copy of the book retails for £9.99 from Amazon while the hardcover retails for £15.99. Do check the price directly via Amazon as this might change.

About Maja Mika
Maja Mika has Polish origins and grew up in North London. After studying film at the University of Surrey, and briefly working in TV, she was convinced there was more to life and embarked on a solo trip to Rishikesh, India, the birthplace of yoga. Today she is a yoga teacher, breathwork facilitator, and spiritual retreat holder. After traveling to Ecuador, where she studied with Shamans and acquired knowledge in plant medicine, she could no longer keep the story of Whalina to herself, feeling compelled to write Beneath The Surface Of Light.
Inspired to share spiritual concepts and wisdom with readers who otherwise may never ponder the bigger picture, Maja believes she can reach a wider audience through fiction. She has always enjoyed writing and, from a young age, created short stories and poetry. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, walking her dog Coco, swimming in the sea, watching black-and-white films, and exploring new places in nature. And, of course, writing her next work of fiction.
