As soon as September hits I’m always so excited to jump into Autumn with all the joys it brings. From crisp leaves, chunky knits and dark nights. It’s such a gorgeous time of year but also the best season for family fun. Kickstarting with Halloween, sliding into bonfire night and then Christmas as the finale! Now Teddy is a little older I’m even more excited about the holidays and all the memories we can make with our little family!
I’ve always loved Halloween, nothing better than a good Scarefest and what better way to introduce this holiday to my tiny humans than a good book? Written by Laura Knowles, How Many Sleeps ‘Til Halloween counts down to the event with some spooky characters, in a haunted house on a scary street! Wonderfully illustrated by Gabriele Tafuni with a glow in the dark cover which brings the book to life and finished with some Halloween activity ideas at the end to teach readers how to make a Halloween-inspired dessert and craft a spooky bat out of a toilet roll tube. what’s not to love? This book is published by Welbeck Kids we have a selection of their children’s books already and highly recommend it.
What did we think of the book?
We have thoroughly enjoyed How Many Sleeps til Halloween! We love this season, and this was just the perfect way to start getting excited about Halloween. Seriously, what child doesn’t go wild for something that glows in the dark? I am under no illusion that we will be reading this every night until Halloween and probably a good few nights after. It’s a book I’m going to put away and bring out yearly as our countdown. It’s a fun rhyming book with your favourite ghouls. We have especially loved counting down and talking about the spooky characters, doing impressions of Frankenstein and Vlad’s fangs!
The activities at the end of the book are super easy to make and cost-efficient to do, we had almost everything in you needed to make them bar chocolate drops, but we just improvised. We have already made the spooky snacks and will definitely add these to our Halloween treats for us to make on the day.

About the Author
Coming from a background in children’s publishing, Laura Knowles’s long-standing love of natural history, words and art has led her to work on books about animals and nature. Her first book, It Starts with a Seed, came about after she attended an art class drawing live animals, taught by the illustrator Jennie Webber. When she isn’t writing and editing, Laura spends her time creating her own artwork and exploring museums in search of inspiration. She likes tame animals nearly as much as wild ones and has an elderly goldfish and a very chatty cat.
