[Ad-gifted] Thank you to Wellbeck Publishing for sending us a copy of Woodwitch by Skye Mckenna which is the continuation book to Hedgewitch, to feature on the blog.
Cassie has settled into life in Hedgely when, out of the blue, her troubled cousin, Sebastian, comes to stay for Hallowe’en. Sneering and scornful, Sebastian trails after Cassie and her friends, interfering with their coven projects and belittling the dangers of the faery world.
But Cassie, Rue and Tabitha have bigger problems – as the nights grow longer, a dark shadow creeps out of the Hedge and villagers start behaving strangely, possessed with the desire to find a mysterious object.
When the Hedgewitch is called away, the girls decide to investigate and discover that whoever is controlling the villagers is seeking a faery relic: an ancient and dangerous weapon, hidden somewhere in the village. Their magical training will be put to the test as they venture deeper into the Hedge and race to find the faery treasure before it falls into the hands of the Erl King.

What did my 12-year-old daughter think of the book?
Woodwitch is the continuation book from Hedgewitch and sees the return of our favourite heroine, Cassie and her friends Rue and Tabitha. Cassie is now thirteen-years-old and is a fledgling witch in the magical village of Hedgely. She is now fully settled and lives with her Aunt Miranda, the Hedgewitch and Cassie’s Coven Mistress.
Cassie is desperately searching for her mother, who’s been missing for over seven years but she can’t go on the search until she becomes a fully qualified witch so is on a mission to gain more badges so she can take the final test. Cousin Sebastian comes to stay for Hallowe’en and soon causes all sort of trouble for Cassie and her friends after her Aunt gets called away.
But there are strange things happening to some of the people of Hedgely, they seem like they are possessed, looking for some fairy weapon. There is no doubt that the Erl king wants the weapon. But why? Cassie, Rue and Tabitha’s skills are put to the test as the race is on. Who will find it first?
I really loved reading Hedgewitch and could not wait to read the next book Woodwitch and I can assure you that I was not disappointed as I thought this book was really good!
New characters are introduced in the book and there is also a new storyline but our favourite heroines from Hedgewitch are back! What I loved most about the book was how imaginative Skye McKenna is. Her books are truly magical and she is so imaginative and connects easily with her readers.

There are also three maps of Hedgely in the book. The first map is of the village, which shows the The Hedge, Rues flat, Tabitha’s cottage, Coven hall and more!
The second and third map, shows both the West side which is Loft Street and East Side of Loft Street. Skye McKenna has drawn these maps herself and it looks believable. The maps are also very detailed and helps the reader imagine how the streets of Hedgely actually looks like (in case her fantastic writing wasn’t enough).
I have read both books now and have really enjoyed them. I felt that the author’s words connected with me. I can’t wait for Skye’s next book instalment and hope it is coming soon.

How much is the book and how can you buy it?
The hardcover copy of the book retails for £11.55 while the kindle copy retails for £6.99. You can purchase a copy of it here.
