Christmas Gift Guide – Gift Ideas for Children

[Ad-gifted] Christmas is such a magical time for Children and receiving gifts is such a treat and something I know they look forward to especially if they have written letters to Santa.  This year Christmas is going to be even more special as I am sure just like us, everyone has been affected by the pandemic and is going to make the celebration as festive as they can within their budget.  This Christmas Guide is all about gifts for children and ideas on what you can get them.

We share ASDA Personalised Jigsaw Puzzle which is the perfect game to play as a family during the Christmas holidays, Junior Rummikub from John Adams where a child learns through play. The KIKKERLAND Wooly Mammoth 3D Wooden Puzzle which is a fun puzzle for children who love making and fixing things while the Chicco Pink Arrow Balance Bike is great for a young child who is just learning to ride the bike. The Geomag Mechanics is perfect for the child who loves challenging himself/herself through this STEM-based game by creating new things.

Hope you enjoy our selection and recommendations here and this has inspired your gift buying.

ASDA Personalised Jigsaw

We love getting stuck into a jigsaw as a family as they’re something everyone can get involved in and they make a fun change from the usual board games.  Jigsaws also make a fun gift for a jigsaw-loving family member and picking a nice photo of a happy memory can really spread a bit of Christmas cheer –  especially if you can’t be together right now.  The ASDA Personalised Jigsaw consists of 266 piece jigsaw and will indeed get children excited to rummage through the tiles to find everyone’s faces. It will also be fun to chat and remember the exact moment when the picture was taken.  There is a slightly smaller jigsaw you can order which is made up of 112 pieces and costs £10, however, we decided on challenging the kids with the larger of the two.

The quality of the jigsaw is impressive too and despite not using the best quality photograph, the image was crystal clear.  Our top tip would be to pick a picture with lots of detail as this helps make the jigsaw more challenging or picking a picture of a happy memory that helps encourage chatting and sharing stories. Priced between £10-15, you can get your jigsaw ordered in time for Christmas from Asda-Photo here.

Junior Rummikub

If you are looking for a fun and educational game at the same time to gift your children or nieces or nephews this Christmas then do check out the Junior Rummikub.  This is a fast-moving numbers game which helps players develops numeracy skills, aids logical thinking but above all is loads of fun to play.  As a parent, I find learning through play is an important aspect in a child’s learning so games such as this is so much fun and educational at the same time.

Perfect for ages 4 and above, the Junior Rummkub required two to four players to play the game and if you can count to 10, you can play the game.  Played with 40 tiles (1 to 10 in 4 colours) plus a set of star tiles. The object of the game is to collect as many stars as possible. Earn a star when you make a run or add to a run that is already laid. This game is ideal for younger children but is also a great game to play as a family. Priced at £19.99 you can purchase it from Amazon here.

KIKKERLAND Wooly Mammoth 3D Wooden Puzzle

Do you have a near teen? That kind of in in-between age that might still sort of ‘be’ into toys but not quite old enough for older aged gifts? Well, this 3D wooden mammoth puzzle might be just what you were looking for. This has been laser cut out of wood and pieces together to create a 3D model.  Kikkerland, the brand in charge of making this flat-packed puzzle, promote it based on its ability to improve your motor skills on concentration. Inside you will find a diagram and instructions on how to piece it all together.

I think this is a great gift, for between the ages of 8-13, but that being said an adult puzzler might also find this a fun gift. It might also be a perfect Christmas gift for a grandparent you haven’t seen in a while. This gift is really versatile for who you might want to receive it.

It is available on Amazon and currently priced at £10.62. It will easily fit in a large envelope which means it should only cost approx £1.70 to post, which makes it such a great Christmas gift for a family member you might not see over Christmas, but still want them to know you are thinking of them.  The puzzle is fun and although could be quite complicated to do, means that this will expand the time you spend making it which means that you expand the fun! Also be sure to have a look at the other options available if a mammoth isn’t your thing, as there are also dinosaurs and tigers available in the Kikkerland range.

Chicco Pink Arrow Balance Bike

The Chicco Pink Arrow balance bike is a great Christmas Gift to give children who are learning to get a grip of cycling as it helps them acquire the necessary balance on two wheels to facilitate the move to a real bicycle with pedals. It acts as a comfortable stepping stone to pedalled bicycles, is made from ultra-light metal with adjustable handlebars and you can adjust the seat to suit the child’s height.

The bike which is available in pink colour was pretty easy to put together and took just 4 simple steps, we just had to make sure it was held straight whilst tightening up the seat and that the handlebars and position was at the right height for my 3-year-old. It is recommended for children between the ages of 3 to 5 but I would suggest this bike for children aged 18 months to 3 years of age to start them young.  Made of an ultra-light metal, the balance bike retails on Amazon for £34.99 (do check the price as it might change) so you can get it delivered in time for Christmas.
