We love school holidays as it means that we tend to head out on day trips or on short staycations in the UK.
Here are some photos of our recent beach holiday in May to Lytham St Annes where we stayed at The St Ives Hotel which is a family-friendly hotel.
We were really lucky as we experienced such fabulous warm weather and sunny skies during our stay there. Lytham St Annes is very special as my husband used to holiday there with his family when he were younger. So it was lovely to bring the children there to experience how wonderful this seaside town in Lancashire and to share those memories.

This was the second time we have stayed at Lytham St Annes, the first time was when we visited Blackpool and decided to stay at the Premier Inn.
Lytham St Annes is located just south of Blackpool but is quiet and great for families to stay at night. It is very easy to travel to Blackpool as you could either take the bus, tram/train or drive (around 10 minutes) from Lytham St Annes.

There is so much to do at Lytham St Annes, we decided to spend our holiday just relaxing by the beach, enjoying the wonderful sunshine. The beach was at a distance and we did not manage to swim while we were there but we did walk up to water for a little paddle and made sandcastles.
Our hotel was wonderful, as it was just across the beach, and they allowed us to park on site before we checked-in, so we brought a picnic on the day we arrived and enjoyed it on the beach.

There are also souvenir shops, cafes and ice-cream shops at St Annes Pier if you prefer hot food. The fish and chips shop was very with the visitors there. Seaside donkey rides are also available, if your children prefer to go on one.

If you are heading to Lyham St Annes for a day trip then it is worth renting a beach hut for the day to shelter from the heat, get changed or store valuables. The beach huts can accommodate up to 6 people and you can rent it from 10am to midnight for fee. Also, don’t forget to bring some essentials like sunscreen and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun while you’re out and about.
All huts have mains electricity and fitted kitchens complete with fresh water, fridge, heater, microwave, kettle, cutlery, bench seating and chairs. The public toilets are not too far away.

We soon checked into our hotel and found there was plenty to keep the kids busy there such as indoor swimming pool (which my children loved swimming in), the playroom (for toddlers), an arcade game room with ping pong table, cafes which provide Kid’s Disco entertainment at night as well as Bingo for older kids and adults.

Our room was comfortable and the breakfast in the morning was delicious and what we needed to get going. We found that our hotel was just 5 minutes walking distance from most places such as Tesco Extress, M&S Foodhall, Sainsburys and there were also plenty of lovely restaurants to head to for dinner at night.

Our favourite had to be the Lau Shang Chinese Restaurant where both my kids enjoyed the Roast Duck with pancakes and dim sum spread. We also enjoyed our dinner at Allegria Italian Restaurant which served authentic pizzas and pastas. I would recommend pre-booking your meals especially if you head there over the weekend or the summer.

I would say Lytham St Annes is such a family friendly place to head to especially since everything is walking distance. We spent many hours in the day playing by the beach and in the evening walking by the beach again enjoying the sunset. We can’t wait to head back there again to create more happy memories.

In fact it is a really nice corner of paradise for a family getaway in the name of relaxation and getting together and being together.
This looks like an amazing getaway for the family. I love the beautiful beach, and the beach houses are super cute.
They sure are
I’m hoping to do a family beach holiday if we don’t go abroad this year. It sounds like you’ve found a great place there. I love that the hotel has so much there to keep the kids happy.
A fab place indeed, great for families with kids
This beach looks like exactly the type of beach getaway my family enjoys, too. We are at the beaches this week in Florida but it’s not a cute little town like this. Where we are is very touristy. I like the slower, smaller areas.
Enjoy your beach break and we can’t wait to go back to St Annes again
Aw this really reminds me of our family holidays down in the beach in Lincolnshire. Simple pleasures and perfect for a relaxed family getaway. My daughter still loves the donkey rides!
How lovely that you have shared that…life’s little pleasures indeed
oh wow, I would love to spend a couple of weeks there, chilling by the water, that is so so cool. I am glad you enjoyed your stay.
Super relaxing and great for kids as well
Nothing beats a day at the beach. Such a lovely spot to take the family and get away for a weekend.
Can’t beat some sun, sea and sand
A Beach vacation with family is the best! That looks so fun!
What a lovely family vacation! We have never been to Lancashire but need to check it out!
It is a great place to spend a few days, super relaxing
As a local, I can agree that the beach is wonderful & there is a new wind sport centre being built at north beach. You can see regular kite surfers and Sandy yachters. There is a huge kite festival in August
But… beware of the sea. The tide goes out miles and, although it looks flat, there are channels. The tide comes in very fast (running speed) and you can get caught out and stranded easily with tragic consequences.
If you want to play in the water, wait till high tide. It doesn’t get deeper than hip height for several hundred meters at that point
Stay safe and enjoy our wonderful beach & best sunsets
There are even more amenities than described in this blog
Thank you Sheila for these pointers to help our readers have a great time and to stay safe
Oh wow this looks like the perfect place to get away for a few days and has more than enough for everyone of all ages to do – great family option
