Children’s Toy Review: Garden Fairy Light

[Ad-gifted] Fairies and unicorns just happen to be two of the most important things in my four-year-old Margot’s life. She is so enthralled by the idea of magical creatures that this Fairy Light Garden from My Fairy Garden seemed like the perfect toy for her.

With this ultimate Fairy Light Garden playset you can create a magical, illuminated home and garden for the fairies, Heather and Elvie to live. The set comes with everything you need to create the garden, including grass seeds, brightly coloured stones to make a little path and an array of accessories, oh and not forgetting of course the fairy’s friends, baby unicorn and tiny hedgehog. The only thing you will need to purchase is the compost, though luckily we already had some after testing out the Peppa Pots and growing delicious herbs recently but compost can easily be bought at a garden centre or your local supermarket.

Also Included in this ultimate Fairy Garden playset is an enchanted mushroom house that doubles as a nightlight. Simply blow on the magic candle through the window and watch as it lights up accompanied by gentle harp music. There is also a secret home for the hedgehog, a pretty bridge to connect to other gardens and two areas in which to grow a lawn using the grass seeds provided.

To begin I had a quick scan of the instruction booklet to know what order to do things and then let Margot fill the faux terracotta bowl with soil whilst I assembled the mushroom house. It was a little fiddly and kept sliding off the decked area but once mum did a bit of levelling of the soil it stayed in one place. Margot then carefully arranged the other features of the garden including the fenced flower bed area and artificial flowers and I have to say, I had a really hard time not to jump in and take over and start rearranging it – it was just so much fun to play with as it really taps into your inner child! That said, she did let me move around some of the colourful stones for the path but the rest she decided for herself.

The next job was creating the string of bunting using the stickers provided. Margot had a go at doing a couple for herself but with it being quite a fiddly job, we worked together with her holding the string tight and me folding the patterned triangles around it and then tying it on the decorative sticks provided.

After Margot told me where to position the bunting it was time to sprinkle our special fairy dust around the garden. Again I let Margot take the reins and the entire glittery contents were emptied all over the garden! I wasn’t sure if this would stop the seeds developing but as you can see from the pictures it didn’t stop the grass growing thick and strong in a just a matter of days.

What did we think of the Garden Fairy Light ?

I would say it took around a week for the garden to fully bloom but in the meantime we were able to enjoy lots of role playing fun with the sweet characters both inside and out in the garden and then when the time came, Margot enjoyed getting the little scissors and carefully manicuring her perfect fairy lawn – with supervision of course.

I would definitely recommend this wonderful interactive set. It allows plenty of creativity and fun and is the perfect gift for budding gardeners and magic enthusiasts alike!
