Young Alfred Hitchcock’s Moviemaking Master Class

[Ad-gifted] Always make the audience suffer as much as possible was Alfred Hitchcock’s famous words and in time for Halloween’s Day we are showcasing The Young Alfred Hitchcock’s Moviemaking Master Class by Tony Lee Moral.

Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most revered filmmakers of the 20th century. Now to mark the 100th anniversary of his directorial debut in 1922, this updated edition of “The Young Alfred Hitchcock’s Movie Making Masterclass” shows the influences upon the young Alfred Hitchcock as he launched his directing career and how he ultimately made a lasting impression upon cinema.

The “Master of Suspense” was also an innovator of storyboarding, directing, framing, editing, and marketing. Hitchcock regularly engaged with his audiences and gave lectures at film institutes, universities, and film schools across the country. Hitchcock author and aficionado Tony Lee Moral takes you through the process of making a motion picture, Hitchcock style.

If you love Halloween and have started binge watching Alfred Hitchcock’s scary movies such as Frenzy, Vertigo, The Birds, Rear Window and Psycho in time for Halloween then you would be pleased to know that we are giving away the paperback book worth £12.99 which will be released later this month.  The perfect book to add to your collection.

What I thought of the Moviemaking Master Class Book?

The book is split into the following eight chapters:

Tell Me The Story So Far
Writing Your Screenplay
Pre-Production
Working With Actors
You Have A Rectangle To Fill
The Art of Cutting
Sound and Music
Don’t Worry – It’s Only A Movie

This book is perfect for fans of Sir Alfred Hitchcock and those who are into acting, directing and producing.  The book starts off by sharing details about Sir Alfred as well as the author’s (Tony Lee Moral) 30 years of experience meeting others in the industry who have worked with the renowned filmmaker.  The book also is broken down in a way to help upcoming filmmakers understand the process from the start of putting their idea onto paper to the point of getting it into production.

There are lots of quotations from Alfred Hitchcock throughout the book as well as references to his movies in each chapter.  The book seems like a great addition for upcoming filmmakers or those intending to work in the film industry as well as fans for Sir Alfred Hitchcock himself.

About Alfred Hitchcock

Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock KBE was an English filmmaker widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the history of cinema. Born in Leytonstone, Essex, England he had a career spanning six decades, he directed over 50 feature films, many of which are still widely watched and studied today.

Known as the “Master of Suspense”, he became as well known as any of his actors thanks to his many interviews, his cameo roles in most of his films, and his hosting and producing the television anthology Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955–65). His films garnered 46 Academy Award nominations, including six wins, although he never won the award for Best Director despite five nominations.

The “Hitchcockian” style includes the use of editing and camera movement to mimic a person’s gaze, thereby turning viewers into voyeurs, and framing shots to maximise anxiety and fear. The film critic Robin Wood wrote that the meaning of a Hitchcock film “is there in the method, in the progression from shot to shot. A Hitchcock film is an organism, with the whole implied in every detail and every detail related to the whole.

Hitchcock became an American citizen in 1955. He received the BAFTA Fellowship in 1971 and was knighted in December that year, four months before his death on 29 April 1980.
