JORD Men’s Archer Walnut and Ebony Sunglasses Review*

When you think of sunglasses you generally think about them being worn in the summer. But wearing them during the winter months is just as important in protecting your eyes. Recently we were asked to review these beautiful and light Men’s Archer Walnut and Ebony wooden sunglasses by JORD(pronounced Yode) and as the weather is getting colder and the crisp bright mornings are approaching, this was the perfect time to trial them out and see what we think about these unusual sunglasses.

JORD are known for creating amazingly detailed wooden watches, which we have previously reviewed.  So their transition to sunglasses seems a great addition to their current accessories collection. The sunglasses’ frame is made from Eastern European Walnut and is backed with contrasting East African Ebony. The Lens is made from polarised resin which has been processed in this way in order to reduce the glare and protect your eyes from UV rays that are considered to be harmful. There is a really delicate detailing, which consists of a thin line on the arm of the glasses made from 999 solid silver, and the logo has been elegantly inlayed close to where they would sit on your ears.

What did we think of the Jord Sunglasses?

When opening the box you really feel a sense of quality with JORD sunglasses. My husband was the one who wore the sunglasses and he thought they were really light and comfortable to wear. A great feature and one of the main reasons they are so comfortable is due to the double spring mechanism on the arms. They move in both directions so fit a slightly wider head if required. The lenses were really clear and everything was really sharp when looking through them. Another fab design feature was the box that they come in, so often we throw our sunglasses down and don’t bother with the box as it never fits in anything, and when there aren’t any glasses inside it seems pointless to carry it about, however, with the JORD box, you can flatten it down so that it easily fits in your pocket or bag, therefore, your sunglasses stay continuously in great shape as there is no reason not to have the box on hand!

We also found the fact that they are made nearly entirely of wood (minus the hinge, fine detail and lens) is a really interesting feature. In a day where we are avoiding plastic more and more, it’s nice to know that there is an increase in accessories out there that could biodegrade once you no longer have any need for them. In addition, the wooden frame just feels so solid and light. Often plastic frames can feel flimsy and brittle, whereas these feel sturdy and strong.

Overall my husband was really pleased with the quality and the look and style of these elegant sunglasses and they proved perfect in the bright autumnal sun. They also really stayed in position whilst he played with our children in the green near to our house. Which as you know can be awkward at times with flimsy plastic sunglasses, as they sometimes fly off your face!
