We at Yeah Lifestyle have been searching for a new chocolate company to review, and finally, we have found one! Another thing that has surprised us is that Seed Chocolate, are not only an Award-Winning Chocolate company, they also happen to be in the same County of Staffordshire as our blog, here in the UK. It has literally taken us to lockdown to discover this unbelievably ethically company, that creates chocolate from the bean to the bar!
As foodies, we love to review things like chocolate, and furthermore we love to review chocolate that has been made using ingredients sourced from only a handful of countries and then produced with such attention to detail. Equally, it is focused on being ethical and against child slavery which can often be an issue in cocoa-producing countries.

What we thought of Seed Chocolate
The first chocolate we tried was Pink Gin Dark Chocolate from Peru. It was dark chocolate with a dusting of dried juniper berries, grapefruit and salt. The dark chocolate on this was beautifully smooth and rich and with the juniper dust clinging to one side, it added a second dimension to the flavour. It also gave the chocolate another texture. I have to say I really enjoyed this chocolate but it wasn’t my children’s favourite, as it was a little too bitter. My son said what’s all this stuff (as in the Juniper, Grapefruit and Salt)? Ha – I think this is more suited to an adult palette, as the flavours incorporate, sweet, with sour and salty which I think is confusing for a child.

The second bar is The Gran Chillique chocolate, which was out of this world and quite clearly absolutely amazing! The flavour of the chocolate, when it melted in your mouth, was almost sweet like a berry, but then had the dark and intense flavour you would expect from good quality, high cocoa content, dark chocolate. The sweetness in this one is so moreish, and we couldn’t get enough of it. My eldest son who is 8, loves dark chocolate and its safe to say that this one was his favourite. I can’t tell you how unusual the sweetness is without you trying it for yourselves, but it certainly is delicious.

Finally the Toasted White Chocolate – now with this one you really have to move away from the idea that this is white chocolate as you know it, because it isn’t. Unlike white chocolate, this is not white in colour is more of a light milky chocolate colour. It is creamy but also slightly crumbly at the same time. It doesn’t taste of classic chocolate but is really yummy. This was my daughter and my youngest son’s (who happens to love regular white chocolate) favourite. Its tasted almost toffee-like and wasn’t dissimilar to the biscuits you get with your coffee.
All in all, these three bars of chocolate have got to be the best I have tasted from the UK market, and I say this from a family of chocolate fanatics. If you want to try something that you know has been produced with such care and skill, then Seed Chocolate should definitely be in your birthday hint list! To top this off the latter two chocolates are award-winning. The Gran Chillique most recently having won a Silver Award from The Academy of Chocolate Awards 2019, and Silver Award International Chocolate Awards European, African & Middle East Category 2019. Toasted White Chocolate has been awarded Bronze Award – The Academy of Chocolate Awards 2018, and 1 Star Award – The Guild of Fine Food 2018.

About Seed Chocolate
Seed Chocolate was set up in 2017. It was born through the concept created by Ex Chef James Walter. Who after a spinal injury, had to learn to walk again and during this time, he decided to experiment with cocoa chemistry and create his very own tempered chocolate.
The beans are sourced from places like Peru and West Papua and then made in their Stoke-on-Trent micro-factory from bean to bar.
Final Thoughts
As we are starting to come out of Lockdown its important to take what we’ve learned from being stuck inside and starting to think more ethically towards what we do with our lives. So as not to lose some of what we have begun to discover, we should consider taking the time to spy out small local businesses much like Seed and begin to choose them over large scale corporations that perhaps no longer focus of the quality of their product. Companies like Seed Chocolate need our support and if you like what you saw please head over to their website to see what other delights they have in store.
