Cheatwell Board Game Review: Nostalgia*

[Ad-gifted] Winter is here and we can cosy up inside and dig out the board games! If you’re bored (ha pun intended) with the games you have stacked up at home and want to refresh your nights in, check out our latest Cheatwell games reviews.

This is the first of two and will help you to decide on some new potential games for your cupboard. Nostalgia is the first game we will be looking at – it revisits the past with trivia-style questions about the last few decades.

If your kids are a little older and have a bit of historical knowledge they should be okay, however, I would say it’s perhaps more suited to the 80s and early 90s generation as many of the questions will take you back to a time gone by. The game promises not to be too far-fetched with its categories so most people should be able to answer the questions! See what we thought in our newest blog post…

What we thought of Nostalgia?

We had a game as date night sat around our dining table with nibbles and drinks and enjoyed playing it.

The concept of the game is straightforward, you have a board, player pieces (it’s for 2-6 players or 2-6 teams) trivia question cards with categories from 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, TV, Film, Music and Fads & Fashion – and finally a die with 1-3 numbers on, allowing you to roll to choose your numbered question on the card. The board is the way you choose which category to answer from and it takes you on a little journey through the decades and TV, Music, Film and Fashion. It’s all jumbled up so as you go through each square you are sure to get a different question every time.

I read other reviews on the game saying ‘they went through it quite quickly’ but I didn’t feel like it went so fast. However, if you did find that you went through the game at speed, you could essentially make the game last longer by saying to each player that they have to answer two questions (or more) from each move they make on the category boxes. The advantage of Trivia games like this, is you can adapt it to suit your group.

I love how small the cards are and there are plenty of them which means that you should be able to play this game over and over, unlike some games that by the time you have played it a few times – you know the answers so it doesn’t seem quite so fun. I think with this game, you would easily forget the answers from one time to the next as there are so many. I did think that some of the questions were quite hard to answer but I have never been that good at general knowledge!

I enjoyed the game as it’s almost like a pub quiz and means that you can play it with a few people or just as a couple as we did. It’s lovely quality so it would make a great gift at this time of year or even as a birthday present. Note the game is for ages 16+ – which I would say is pretty accurate – there are times when we review games and we know younger children would still be able to play but I think they would struggle with the questions.
