[Ad-gifted] Long ago, when I first arrived in the UK, no-one drank decent coffee and when you visited someone and they offered you a coffee, it was instant and made with milk. That was a culture shock for me and my mother when she visited. Luckily things have changed and according to a young person I spoke to a little while ago, the UK is the Capital Culture of coffee!! People spend a fortune on coffee but this could be avoided by having a machine at home. We have had a bean to cup for years and previously we had a small espresso machine without any option to get the milk frothed or heated.

What we thought of the Espresso Machine with Automatic Milk Frother?

When I received the espresso machine after unpacking it, I noticed that it is not heavy, therefore easy to lift, not too tall so it can be put under the wall units in a fitted kitchen and because of it’s light weight, it is easy to move it away from the back to get to the water tank.

Following the instructions, I cleaned all the accessories and wiped the machine down before using it. The water tank is easy to take off the back of the machine and easy to put back after filling it with water.  The top of the machine is a cup warmer which will warm up when the machine is switched on.

Before attempting to make a couple of different coffees, I read the instructions to ensure I did it correctly. I used already ground coffee suitable for coffee machines as I wanted to be sure the grounds were not too big as a finer ground will make a stronger coffee.

As I am a coffee drinker, I decided to make a double espresso using the actual machine setting, so the cup would be filled to 60g-90g which was not enough for me so for the cup, I changed the setting to the maximum which is 120g. If you like very strong coffee, the 60g-90g is perfect but if you are looking for a larger strong coffee, the maximum setting is better.

After having made an espresso, I decided to try the latte, using the small portafilter. The milk container is easy to attach to the coffee machine and easy to take off but be aware that there is a button to press to release it from the unit.  There are options to change the amount of water used for each of the types of coffee which can be set. This is something which can be done once you have tried the various options.

I obviously have not tested the de-scaling programme but I expect it will be straight forward to do. During the testing of the machine, I noticed that the coffee was not as warm as I am used to, comparing to what I get with my own machine, but it is still fine especially if you drink it black or add hot milk to it.  The specialty coffee such as the cappuccino and latte seem to be on the cool side. As I like a my coffee really hot, I needed to put it in the microwave for a little while to get it to my preferred temperature.

The machine also required a cleaning after just having made around 4 different drinks which could be a problem if you have visitors and require a few coffees one after the other. There was nothing in the instruction to explain how this process would work as well.  The milk needed to be emptied and replaced by clean water before starting the cleaning process.

On page 9 of the instruction leaflet, there is a diagram for the milk container showing the various settings but that only explains two of them and I have not been able to find any information on the third one.
