What we thought of the Three Childrens Book Reviews

Parker and Rudi’s Most Amazing Adventure? was the first book we read, the story follows the journey of two dogs who can’t resist eating what’s been left out on the side, and how when they escape from their mishap, they end up on a plane that takes them on a journey with some Rock Stars. Of course, it is totally farfetched but what child doesn’t enjoy a totally ridiculous story.

Next, up, was What’s the plan, Stan? which really had me laughing, as the funniest part was how the start of the story follows dad on the phone, and he is listening to the automated messages you get. He is so tied up with this call that he sends Stan out with his friends and you read of their long and funny journey to get to Nan’s house.

The third and final story was Don’t Touch that Razor Fraser!! Which as you may have guessed is the comic caper of a boy and an electric razor and all the things that could possibly go wrong! This is a really funny tale and the moral of the story is to listen to your parents, which I’m not sure any child truly does! Ha.

These books are aimed at seven-year-olds, but we read them together at bedtime and all got so much enjoyment from them. As a family, we enjoy books you read with a bit of rhythm, so these suited us down to a tee. I also liked the clear and crisp illustrations that correlated really well with what was going on. Sometimes with children’s books, we have reviewed in the past the illustrations are often beautiful but don’t fill in the gaps or work with what has been written in the story.

Although the illustrations themselves weren’t my cup of tea in terms of style, my children loved them and the way they were comic book-like. These really are a good set of books and its good to know that they aren’t the only ones that Stuart Simmonds and Bill Greenhead have produced together, so there are plenty more to follow on from these.

About STUHEAD

Stuart Simmonds is an ex English cricketer, turned author and has been writing his successful Hannah the Spanner books since 2017. He met Bill Greenhead through a mutual friend and has been working with him on his books ever since. They made an instant connection and knew from Bill’s passion for all things fun from Marvel to Thunderbirds that together with Simmonds stories, they could create the fantastical books that they have so far to date.

Their initial stories were based around a girl called Hannah the Spanner and followed her tales in a total of seven books. They have now expanded and written and illustrated a whole load of new characters for everyone to enjoy. And along the way they have carried out some school workshops where they introduce Hannah the Spanner to the pupils/learners and have them create their own unique take on their stories, sharing the fun again of the characters they have fabricated and their hilarious happenings.
