Christmas Gift Guide for Children – Book Gift Ideas*

by Yeah Lifestyle

Are you as excited as we are about presents and Christmas?  Well, I definitely am! With just around 5-weeks to go until Christmas, it is time to start making present lists so that no one is left out and I am not in a rush as Christmas approaches.  If you are at loss and wondering where to start, then don’t worry as we have some fabulous Christmas Gift Guides coming your way.  This guide is the first of many, and we are starting with book gift ideas for children as we have always included books into our Christmas presents list.

Picking titles for children as they grow up can be difficult especially if they read a lot, so we have some great recommendations here.  Our first book suggestion is Yadira by David Chapman, a book about love, light and hope, next we share about Spikey by Tereza Anteneová which teaches children about hedgehogs and why they are at risk and how to help them.

The third book, The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl is a fabulous gift for Roald Dahl fans who want to know more about the books he has written. Next, we share about Wild Thing Books Subscription because one book is never enough! They offer either a one time purchase or monthly subscription which are beautifully wrapped.  Finally, we share three Paramedic Chris Books by Tim Parsons which are great if you would like to teach your children more about the NHS, paramedics or what happens when an ambulance is called.

Five fabulous Book Gift Ideas for Children to read on their own or for parents who enjoy reading bedtime stories with their children.

YADIRA

Yadira is a book filled with stories encompassing love, light and hope. Suitable for children aged 5 to 8-years-old, the book shares about two sisters Arya and Maya who magically find a new friend, Yadira, who is an expression of their love and willingness to expand their world through play.

Yadira soon becomes their guide and together, they all embark on marvellous adventures. Almond blossoms floating in the air take them up and away to mysterious places. A heart-shaped stone leads them to a stream source where they hear stories and poems in the splashing water.

They learn to play the music that birds and animals are drawn to listen to. Masses of butterflies surround them and send them into a dream state which then transports them into another reality. The girls begin to follow threads that lead back to their ancestors and they understand that they are part of this immense inheritance. The capacity or power to help and heal has become theirs.

Written by David Chapman and beautifully illustrated by Brittany Cicchese, the book is priced at £6.99 and you can purchase it from Troubador.

Spikey

Spikey is such a wonderful book for little ones who love animals. Written by Tereza Anteneová , the book is about Spikey the hedgehog and shares details about why hedgehogs are at risk and how to help them.

Set in Regent’s Park, London, lonely and rejected hedgehog, Spikey must learn quickly if he is to survive the coming winter. With only the wisdom of his grandma to guide him, he sets out into the big, wide world. Who will help him, and how will he cope when there are dangers all around? A definitely heart-warming story this Christmas to share with children and hedgehog-lovers of all ages.

I find that my children also love books that have additional supporting materials such as downloadables or activity sheets on the website so they can continue to enjoy doing activities even after reading the book.

Supported by Hedgehog Street, a charity campaign that seeks to stop the decline in hedgehog numbers and encourage people to create hedgehog-friendly gardens.  This book is a great gift to give little ones and educate them about hedgehogs as well.   Spikey is available in paperback for £9.99 or hardback for £12.99 from Amazon.

Wild Thing Books Subscription

We love reading in my house and often find that there are not enough books to get us around despite me stocking up on book supplies at home and both my kids having an active library and ebook membership.  So if your child (or someone you know) is an avid reader like ours then Wild Thing Books subscription service is the perfect gift to gift them.

You can choose to get a one-off box or subscribe to monthly, 3-months, 6-months or yearly subscription.  The books which have been included in our package are suitable for children aged 5 to 8-years-old and each set of books is gift wrapped and the first month includes a bookmark and welcome letter.

For all gifts, you can also choose to include a handwritten message to make the gift even more special to the recipient (if you are unable to travel this Christmas and want the gift to be delivered).

As a guide, the one-time purchase from Wild Thing Books is priced at £18.99. Please check their website for more pricing details for their monthly subscription fee.  For every subscription they receive, they donate a book to UK Reads – the World Literacy Foundation initiative focussing on children impacted by illiteracy.  So you are also helping another child by purchasing this gift.

Paramedic Chris Books

We are featuring three books from Tim Parsons titled Paramedic Chris, Paramedic Chris – A Helping Hand and Paramedic Christ – A Sorry Bully.  These books will introduce children aged 4 to 10 years old, to a day in the life of a paramedic and his friends.

Children will learn valuable lessons about important community helpers and what happens when you call an ambulance. They will also get to learn more about the NHS and the wonderful things they do for everyone.

Stories are told in simple language for young children to understand but are lengthy so it is best to read to younger ones as a continuation story over a few days.

These educational books which are wonderfully illustrated are written by Tim Parsons and are based on true stories from his experience working with an emergency crew as a chaplain.  The three books are available from Amazon for £7.99 each and make a wonderful and meaningful gift to a child either as a standalone book or as a book bundle.
