The Little Book of Prada

[Ad-gifted] It’s been a strange time for the high fashion of late, with catwalk shows cancelled or being presented to an empty room and broadcast on zoom, or view of the latest emerging trends has been quite different from years gone by. We have literally seen fashion from our living rooms for the past few months, but as restrictions start to lift, its nice to remind yourself of all the things you may have missed from the latest fashion shows, and what better way than with books, filled with images of fashion greatness!

So whether you enjoy reading fashion-themed books or watching TV entertainment such as Dancing with Stars which is the American version of Strictly Come Dancing.  Doing what you enjoy most is so important for relaxation and to unwind from a busy day.  Fans might even want to place a bet on Strictly Come Dancing to make it more interesting to follow the show.

In today’s blog we bring you Welbeck‘s The Little Book of Prada by Laia Farran Graves. Prada fuses luxury with functionality, bringing it right into the modern age, which is how it became the Brand we know and love today. If you want to find out more of the history behind Prada, The Little Book of Prada is a perfect book to add to your fashion library. Books like this also make great gifts for anyone that loves to know the story of the clothes they enjoy either wearing or see appearing down the catwalks.

What I thought of The Little Book of Prada

I particularly enjoy being asked to review fashion and art books, as I sometimes find I have more to say about them than novels. Not that I don’t love a good novel to be immersed in of an evening, but art and fashion books fill me with culture and knowledge as well as being beautiful to look at. So getting the chance to find out more about Prada had me curious to see what I might find and perhaps not already know!

In this book, you learn about how Prada evolved from being a company run by two brothers who did not think women should enter into business, to it being eventually taken over by Mario Prada’s daughter, and finally and currently his granddaughter, Miuccia Prada. What makes this integrating is that Miuccia Prada not only took over the business which I suspect would have been a shock to her grandfather but also made it a huge success.

When reading the book, I was able to reminisce how in my teens, I was hugely influenced by catwalk fashion and styles. When I got the chance to visit Italy, it was there I had my first taste of Prada when my mum treated me to a pair of Miu Miu shoes. What’s fascinating is in the book I learnt how Miu Miu was created as an affordable version of Prada aimed at the younger generation. So being able to think back to this was really nostalgic.

I love how this book tells the story of Prada so vividly, not only through the text but through its imagery. You really get a sense of how they came from leather goods importers to a high-end fashion brand. Prada’s style is always on functionality and fashion, so not only do their clothes look good, but they work in day to day life. I think that although this book informed a lot about Prada’s History, it wasn’t quite as in-depth as The Little Book of Dior that I reviewed a few months ago.

I think if you love fashion and you love reading about how successful companies have come about like the likes of Prada, then this book is certainly worth your time, although not as in-depth as I may have liked it still fills you with so much inspiration, knowing how Miuccia Prada dared to change the way of thinking of her grandfathers business to make it one of the most recognisable brands that have ever been.
