Stack, play and learn with Spike the Fine Motor Hedgehog from Learning Resources.
This may appear as a simple stacking toy, but there is so much more to this brightly coloured hedgehog. Not only does it encourage and strengthen fine motor skills in the stacking element, which you can do in vertically, horizontally or randomly, there are so many more ways to play and learn.
You can learn the colours of the rainbow and each stacker has a shape on the bottom too, so not only can you teach your small one’s the colours of the rainbow but also repeat and identify shapes.

Each segment has holes and the head acts as a cup, which is perfect for water play or bath time where you can demonstrate and compare the different water flows. You can count each segment too whilst stacking them together or even the spikes The bright colours and zig zag shapes of this little spikey hedgehog will stimulate sensory play perfect for your younger ones.
Spike is aimed at children over 18 months but both my 2-year-old and 15-month-old have played beautifully with this. Teddy who is almost 3 has definitely got the most out of this, going through the colours, shapes, numbers and stacking different ways, but Bea has also loved getting involved and practicing her fine motor skills trying to stack them and no doubt soaking up the information Ted reiterated. It comes with a little activity leaflet too which is brilliant to encourage you to explore different aspects of it with your littles ones.

What We Liked
Personally I loved that it’s something we could all do together, although my babies are close in age, developmentally they are at very different stages. However it was easy to transition between he two. Teddy took his time telling Bea all he knew, pointing out different colours and shapes to her and helping her stack them together. Also, a huge bonus which I’m sure every parent will love is its so easy to clean! You can simply wipe it down or pop it in the sink!
What We Didn’t Like
There’s really not much you could love about this compact little hedgehog but if I could think of something I would change I would add more shapes on the bottom, with it splitting into 7 segments the head and bottom are blank.
Overall
Overall, a great addition for your toy box or bath. It’s small, making it easy to travel, there are multiple ways to play, learn and develop skills and easy to clean from those sticky little fingers! It’s no wonder this is a best seller for preschool children!
How much is it and where can I buy it?
Spike the Fine Motor Hedgehog is priced at just £12.50 and can be purchased direct on this website.
